I've been impressed by Quikbook's rates, which require no prepayment. If you don't mind prepayment and a little uncertainty, I've gotten a great deal with Priceline.

Well, in the past year and a half, I can't recall ever paying more than $80 for great 4* (sometimes 3*) hotels in places like NYC, Chicago, Washington, DC, Seattle, SFO, SAN, Houston, Kansas City, Orlando, MSP... the list goes on. All of these bookings, ranging from the ridiculous sum of $10 for a great hotel in Houston to $80 for the Fairmont in Chicago, were made with Priceline.

I can't recommend them enough for hotels!

Lots of us agree Priceline is pretty unbeatable for HOTEL discounts in USA and Canada. If you do use Sheryl's board to select and accurately price your bid, (essential reading IMHO) may I politely suggest you add a nice comment on her board in return. For details where to do that, see:

It can be unbeatable for AIR discounts, also. I just placed another successful bid at $10 roundtrip for a ticket from PHX-LAS. Final amount charged to credit card was $26.95. Not a bad deal, thanks to the $50 free bonus money offer. Plus, in the past, I've received upgrades and frequent flyer miles.

That's a cheap air ticket! Still, being upgraded on UA is hard to drag me away from, and I seldom do any domestic USA flying aside from the It'l trips which have domestic sidtrips included free anyway when I have finished messing with the bookings. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif.

Re Hotel stays, I just checked my Hilton account and my $32 Doubletree is recorded as a valid "stay" as was Westin in the Starwood plan, so if you ASK NICELY the desk staff often allow these to count. They should not I do not think - if they follow the strict rules that is!
