How can there have been a dozen replies to this post with nobody mentioning Johnny D's? It's a Davis Square (17 Holland St.) music spot with some of the best blues, jazz, etc., around, plus food and (cheap) drinks. Check them out, including the performance schedule for the dates of your trip, at http://www.johnnyds.com/.

Davis Square is also the end of a ten-mile bike/running/walking/rollerblading path built over an unused railroad bed and extending through the Western suburbs into Bedford, in case that interests you.

Cool, I'll make sure to check it out with my partner! Need to find a better hotel though!

Been to M.I.T. and Harvard, but not very impressed with the location Holiday Inn has chosen. And one note about the Boston drivers, why are they so rude???? My friend was trying to find the right change for the Toll out of Logan and an old lady honked and yelled at him!!!

After the discussions on this board, the stultifyingly foul location of the Holiday Inn should have come as no surprise.

Boston drivers plan ahead; why must some out-of-town drivers be so slow? If you're in no hurry, why not wait until Sunday morning to make your journey?

And is it not impolite to visit someone else's home and proffer gratuitous comments about their perceived "rudeness"?

Wideman,
Outsiders need to get around too! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif And about Boston drivers plan ahead?? It seems to me that they don't because they always seem to be in a hurry!

Took a little drive to Cambridge and Downtown Boston tonight with my partners, they have concluded that off all the cities that have been to in the States, Boston area by far has the most confusing roads and it is hazardous to drive them as well!!
I'm used to this cus I come here often enjoyed the Commonwealth street espcially, beautiful archtechtures.

Legend has it that the streets of Boston were laid out by the cow paths of the 1600's.

To be honest, I think the cows are smarter than today's politicians, so I don't object to the layout.

Just remember that you cannot take 3 lefts to take a right. There are so many 1-way streets.

Growing up and learning to drive in Boston, I fear nothing while driving in the US. (I understand that European cities can be a challenge - no first-hand experience however).

Commonwealth Ave. is terrific, especially when you follow it west into Newton. Some wonderful homes.

Despite its reputation for aggressive drivers, Massachusetts is the safest state in which to drive, according to a new national report.
see: http://www.eagletribune.com/news/sto...826/FP_003.htm

Here is an article in the Boston Globe about "A primer on rage, red lights and rotaries"..
see: http://www.boston.com/globe/metro/basic_boston_ford.htm

Any interesting article/study lists Boston as "recent report by a Washington advocacy group, the Surface Transportation Policy Project, ranked Boston the safest of 37 urban areas across the country in terms of fatalities due to aggressive driving. Boston had 2.1 deaths per 100,000 residents; the most dangerous city, San Bernardino, California, had 13.4 deaths per 100,000. "

I suspect it is because you're never actually driving fast enough to cause much more than a fender-bender. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I agree Jon, it takes forever here to go 5 miles. Enjoyed a nice dinner with my partners in Cambridge. I honked about 4 times tonight, like what they say do what the Romans do!
