New Haven, a little over an hour from BDL, is also a possibility. The Yale campus and its museums might be appealing. And, it should go without saying, but of course New Haven is the home of pizza. The pizza at Pepe's and Sally's is unbelievable.

Also agree that the Mark Twain house is worth a look.

I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions. I think there a more than a few which will make such a mileage run enjoyable!

Guess what I found --- a free pass to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Let me know if you want it and I'll drop it in the mail.

Jon Toner:

Thanks for your offer on the free pass to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

I think I will pass on it as basketball was not at the top of my list of sports interests.

Jon, what's the expiration date? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Don't go to Harford.
I was there a couple of years ago. At 8:00 PM they "take away the sidewalks", and the town is dead.

Well, it surely "ain't" Manhattan but it IS far better than most folks may think! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

And it is seemingly improving all the time as well! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

USAFAN, it's Springfield that rolls up the sidewalks at 8:00 p.m, Hartford is at 9:00 p.m. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

New Question!!!!!!

I am being banished to Hartford for 6 - 8 weeks and need some info about Hartford. What is the best hotel to stay it in downtown?

Not the nicest but exec floor rooms are reasonably large and food is o.k. Right next to the hockey arena where the Hartford Whalers used to live. If you have a car and don't mind driving in, there's a HGI halfway to the airport and a Doubletree and Homewood Suites next to the airport.

Here's another vote for Mark Twain's house.

You should consider eating at Rein's New York Style Deli in Vernon, CT. It's up route 84 about 10 minutes from downtown. Great deli food, their bagels and bialy's are excellent. Good prices too. www.reinsdeli.com

Princess674, the Homewood Suites in Windsor Locks is quite nice. If you have any status with Hilton, they'll usually upgrade you to a fireplace suite. It's not in the city, but it's only about 10-15 minutes by car. The hotel is VERY nice.

The Hilton Garden Inn in Windsor is also outside the city but about 5 minutes closer to the city than the Homewood Suites. It is also a nice hotel and breakfast is quite good there. It would be another good choice, but I think the Homewood Suites is better. The HGI is quite good too; I just think the HS is even better.
