Sports bar in LAS?
I'm connecting through LAS next Saturday and have arranged a layover from about 0830 to 1130. I need to watch my beloved Huskers against Oklahoma in THE game of the college football season. Husker football is one of the few things I am more passionate about than miles!
The game starts at 0900, so I figure I can catch the first three quarters or so before dashing to get on my flight. Hopefully, the Huskers will have the game in hand by then. But where can I watch the game? I looked at the McCarran Web site, and it looks like there is a NFL-branded sports bar in Concourse C. I believe HP, on which I will be traveling, uses Concourse B. That's not too far, is it? And has anyone been to this bar? Are there any others around? The game is on ABC, though it may only be available on pay-per-view in Vegas. I would expect that if this is a true sports bar (and given that there will be no NFL games on then) that they will have the game. Basically, I just want some people to share what they know so I don't have to worry that I'm going to end up listening to the game on the radio (there is a station in Vegas that broadcasts Nebraska games -- whew). Thanks in advance. |
Well, I found out there is a sports bar there, called Home Turf, or NFL Home Turf, as listed on the McCarran Web site. ABC isn't showing the game in LAS, but I called the sports bar to see if they get pay-per-view games, and no one answered the phone. I'll have to call back. I know, no one cares, but maybe this will help someone else in the future.

If you can't find it in the airport you might consider taking a short cab ride to MGM Grand and watching the game there. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes each way as it's only a mile or two from the airport.

Two options for you Motnot:
1. Maybe the Cheers Bar (it's in the same terminal as the United flights, I forget) may be carrying the game if the NFL bar is too packed. They have the 32 ounce Sam Adams beer glass which is good to have while watching the game. 2. Inspired by Mr. Lion's idea: take Las vegas Limo for 4 bucks to MGM grand or other nearby hotel and maybe find a sports bar there to watch the game. |
I doubt you'll be able to catch the game at the airport. All major casino's will have the game at thier sports book.

The reason there aren't good sports bars in Vegas is that each casino has a huge sports book area with all the games AND free drinks for gamblers. The Hilton has one of the best and it's one of the closest to the airport.

Las Vegas Limos is a good choice to the MGM. The MGM will be your first stop. I wouldn't use them on the return to the airport, as they are sometimes unreliable.
LVL fare - $4 Taxi fare - ~$7 |
Thanks for the tips! I knew someone was out there!
Catman, I will check into Cheers. That 32-ounce Sam Adams sounds good. Sure, it'll be 9 a.m., but heck, it's Vegas. Yeah, going to the Strip is a last resort, but I may have to try. I'd hate to lose track of time and miss my connection. |
Apparently, ABC is now giving its Western affiliates the option to carry the game tomorrow, due mostly to protesting from Husker fans here in the Phoenix area. I can only hope that the Vegas station makes a wise choice.
