Currency-to-Go from Chase Manhattan

Chase Manhattan launched the first web site service that enables both customers and non-customers nationwide to order any one of 75 different foreign currencies and travelers cheques online with no fees or commissions for next-day delivery. ‘Currency-to-Go’ offers competitive exchange rates with no exchange fees or commissions. Non-customers can pay by any major credit card. Chase says currency purchases via credit card will not incur cash advance fees or foreign transaction fees. Chase customers can also pay by debiting their deposit accounts. Home delivery is free for orders of $500 or more, with a $10 shipping charge for orders below that amount. Travelers can order up to six different currencies. Orders over $1,000 must be picked up, in person, at a Chase branch.

That seems like a pretty sweet deal that you can charge it to your credit card and not get charged a fee for cash advances ...

How does this compare to the current Amex deal? And the Amex Platinum deal?

Doc,

Can you fill us in (maybe on the Amex board?) on the Amex deals? Thanks!

"No cash advance fees" by Chase. But it will it be processed by your credit card company as a cash advance? I think it will and interest will start immediately.

Unless it is charged as a "purchase."

Sorry Canonlaw- I don't have the Amex details, since I use CC's and don't use them for currency, but rather get cash at the Airports/ATMS!! I understand they do have a program though.

According to Hammertoad's post it specifically says that it will not be processed as a cash advance but as a purchase.

Just to clarify, I have already used this service to purchase foreign currency with my chase visa (with CO) and it was treated as a purchase, so I earned the miles (unlike a cash advance)!

Pretty good deal, but the exchange rates are not the best of course.

Thanks Steve, actually that was and old message I found from doing a search brought forward by my reply (and again by yours).
I was looking to buy some currency before heading to Dusseldorf and was amazed at the rates. I was hoping for some new information since most of the threads are dated. Particularly whether to Euro or not and the best mail-order / US exchange options.

PS I think from the new uses for Flyer-talk thread would count this a 2 drinks

This is not a good deal - the exchange rate is not good. I always have a couple of ATM cards (banks and/or credit cards) and cash in the country where I go. Much better rate and some don't charge even a fee - like Citi/FI which closed :-(
