BOS Hotels
 

I'm trying to put a trip together for the week of 10/8-10/13, working with some of my people in BOS & then PWM.

I can get decent flight prices, but hotels are sky high! Courtyards, 4 Points, HGI's, Hampton, etc. are running over $100/night, IF they have space. Many hotels are booked solid all that week, even trying 15-20 miles out from the city. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Shadow, BOS has some of the highest hotel rates in the country, and until recently when DL started their non-stop service, LAX-BOS was the most expensive flight I take. Also, BOS has incredibly high occupancy rates. It's rare I can get a decent room for less than 150 a night. My average room there is $250 a night, and sometimes higher. I stay at the Westin Copley Plaza, Omni Parker House, Cambridge Marriott, etc. Even the Courtyard was pricy (but upscale versus the rest).

I hope someone else can give you better news. I have stayed in Reading/Stoneham north of the city at a Sheraton, but didn't like it.

Spoke with a few folks in BOS area...there are a number of reasons hotels are busy.

1. Columbus Day holiday weekend
2. Fall foliage viewing
3. Yom Kippur holiday

Along with the reasons that jeffreyt mentioned. I just 'bagged' the trip until late Oct/early Nov.

I have continuous problems booking a hotel at last minute, regardless of price.

The Sheraton that jeffreyt is referring to is the one that I stay at all the time. It looks like they are available for $219/night. This hotel has (& still is) undergoing rennovations (now, just the lobby) but the rooms are fine, they have 2 club floors and usually will recognize elite status (I tend to get a club floor or suite most of the time now). I took a quick look through my American Express Select Hotel guide, which lists negotiated corporate rates that you qualify for as long as you book through an AMEX travel agency (no need to use nor hold an AMEX card). HOJO's in Cambridge is $104, Susse (how do you say "Susse" anyway?) Chalet in Newton is $83, Susse Chalet in Waltham is $92, Ramada Inn in Woburn is $107. These are all "last room availability" meaning the negotiated rate will never be sold out, as long as there is a standard room available in the hotel. Personally, I prefer something a little higher end - but these meet your $100 or under budget. AMEX has good negotiated rates at other hotels if your willing to spend a little (or a lot) more.

Beantown, I tried the Ramada-Woburn; sold out for the dates. My rep called the Suisse Chalet (she lives in Newton) and they told her 'no room at the inn' for those dates.

Shadow, I can't help finding a cheap room however,if it's true misery loves company...then this will make you feel better. I have to be at an early A.M. meeting in the copley plaza area in late sept. The westin is, A)extorting B)ripping off C) violating my walet, to the tune of $389 FOR A STANDARD ROOM for one night. I normally average about $50-80 a night. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Boston's hotel rates are equivalent to those of SFO and NYC if not higher.

I don't like Priceline too much but I have to say it has come through w/ hotels in Boston when all the othe'sr rates are higher.

Another option is you can call SPG or HY to see if they are block a room for you. They will do that for SPG plats but be expected to pay a high rate ($200+).

Staying at one of the airport hotels sometimes results in material savings. With the Water Taxi and "T", transport into the city is easy.

Try the Courtyard By Marriott Danvers.

we ran into the same situation in BOS once and ended up booking through a Bed & Breakfast agency. It was a nice house in the Back Bay area and we were the only guests. Not bad for a couple of nights.

Don't know if you even like to stay at B&Bs, I don't, but perhaps that may be your only reasonable price choice. Good luck.

I've stayed at the Hampton Inn in Framingham. $115 per night. Of course I only go as far in as Newton, not all the way to Boston. But on 90 it should not take too long. I have also stayed at the Hilton in Dedham but our corporate rate went up to $168 per night and company frowns on that much (strange - corporate rate negotiated by my company and they don't want us to use it).
