prague hotel recommendations wanted
I will be in Prague for 3 days (yes, yes, 'Three perfect days in Prague, a'la United Hemispheres) and am hoping some of you can suggest hotels. I would prefer something interesting to a good chain hotel. Unfortunately something like Pariz or other top-end hotels are a bit beyond my budget for this trip. I would be looking for something mid-scale in price, preferably smallish, central, and 'historical' (as opposed to just plain old!). If you have good memories of a place I would love to hear about it. By the way, I have tried searches and my computer, or ISP?, chokes on them every time... 20 minutes of nothing and I have to X-out of explorer...

The Hilton is very nice but is a bit off the center(10 minutes walk). The InterContinental is the best hotel in Prague and is best located also. the Movenpick is also quite nice.

You might try http://www.prague-hotel.net/ http://www.interacta.cz/accol/index.htm
I haven't stayed there but the Three Ostriches might fit your requirements depending on your budget. Prague hotels in the city center are very expensive. It is also very cold in Prague except in summer... be prepared! |
I spent 9 days at Hotel Anna (http://www.hotel.cz/anna/). It's on the east side of the city, within walking distance of the main train station and Vaclav Square. It's two streets away from the trolley lines, and has restaurants, movies, etc. in walking distance. The elevator is an upright coffin (far worse than the mini-elevator in the 1968 movie "The Producers").
If your business is on the west side of the city, or you don't like Anna for whatever reason, www.hotel.cz will have plenty others. While in Prague, one of our favorite places was Tiberio Steak House (Vinhoradska 32), near the Namiesti Miru. |
We had a suite at the Hilton which was OK in a 1960's style, but I don't think that's what you are after.
I would recommend the Restaurant Parnassus on the banks of the River Vlatava if you enjoy fine dining. Also, beware of the taxis, who often either refuse to use the meter or rig it so it overcharges. Enjoy the trip. |
i recently stayed at the Hotel U Raka. It is part of the romantik chain, but it is incredibly lovely. there are only a few rooms and a lovely patio where you can have a drink. it is on castle hill, but is close to the tram. it's behind the loretta church, and incredibly quiet. i loved wandering around that area at night because all the tourists had gone home. the only drawback is that getting back to the hotel after a day of wandering is always uphill.

Yep, the 3 Ostriches (U Tri Postru) is the neatest little hotel in town, right on the Charles Bridge.
As for restaurants, try U Svalta Ducha (the little church) for the only non-smoking restaurant in Eastern Europe. Peklo is a restaurant in an ancient beer cellar under the monestary near the castle. |
The restaurants listed in Three Perfect Days are great with the exception of Kampa Park which has gone downhill since ownership changed.
