Dublin hotels
 

There is the remote chance I'm going to be SOLO in Dublin for a few days and would like any hotel suggestions.

Especially nice hotels that will be within staggering distance from teh PUBS! After the crazy work period in LONDON< I will reallly want to celebrate things!

We were in Dublin last summer and got a great rate at the Shelbourne (on St. Stephen's Green). This is a great old hotel (built mid 1800's), with a fabulous pool. It is fairly pricy but we got a great rate through travelweb's weekend clickit rates (about 100 dollars a night). Also the Conrad was nearby and looked very nice.
Very close to pubs, restaurants and shopping. Bewley's was a 10 minute walk.

I always stay at the Berkeley Court...there are decent pubs about 10-15 minutes away. The area its in is mainly residential, however. The building is kind of grey and drab, but its very nice, especially the beautiful lobby and gift shops.

The Shelbourne-On-the-Green...I have stayed there too, although several years ago. I have heard that "some of its glory has faded," but its still a GORGEOUS hotel, reminiscent of yesteryear (tearooms etc...). And, its right downtown.

Dublin is definitely a great city. The people are very friendly and the worst aspect you'll encounter will be the weather (Ireland is green for a reason!). Bewley's, while a bit pricey, has great tea and good food for breakfast. You can also find pubs within walking distance of many of Dublin's hotels. Note that when the weather's nice patrons will often "spill out" onto the sidewalk! And of course the Stout is so much better in Ireland. Have a great time. Hopefully we'll be back this summer. Oh...don't forget to get an Aran sweater. They're reasonably priced and quite warm. I'm so jealous!

Thanks for your help folks but also should ask if you know if any of the major chains (Starwood, Hilton, Marriott et all) have hotels within walkable distance in Dublin?

These sound like nice hotels, but I"m also looking into getting some points out of this adventure as well.

I don't think there are too many of the major chain hotels in all of Ireland. I was there last weekend and stayed at the Morgan Hotel in Temple Bar (full of fun bars/ a Soho type atomosphere). I paid IEP 99 at night that included a continental breakfast. (Thats about $130) The room was small (not an uncommon condition for Dublin Hotels), but ultra modern -- with VCR, CD player & coffeemaker in all rooms. There is a sports bar on the ground floor & my room actually had a view of the Liffey River (one block away) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. Have a great time, bring your walking shoes!

PS--Continental has a great flight direct from EWR at 8:35pm!!!!!

Catman, my recommendation would be the Conrad International. It is a very nice hotel and certainly within walking distance of restaurants and pubs.

I'm staying five nights in Dublin in mid September. I have booked The Morgan since it sounds great but I'm having second thoughts. I am now considering staying at the Hilton (the ex-Stakis one) since I would love to earn points on the stay and the special rate includes full breakfast and has free in-room internet service. It also works out to be about a total of 45 pounds cheaper. Has anyone stayed at the Hilton or anyother ex-Stakis hotel for that matter? Is it too far from the action of the town? Or should I just keep my reservation at The Morgan?

the former Stakis Hotel is now a Hilton and is very nice. It was recently built and has standard Hilton type rooms. It is a few blocks further from the Grafton Street area than the Conrad but it is less expensive. I had a rate of IEP 80 incl of tax and b/f for a Friday night about a month ago.

Def not a typical STakis property although they are still going through the changover to Hilton. Having said that the Conrad is def a nicer hotel and is about 5/10 minutes closer to the action.

Thanks for the information. I think I will split the stay and stay a few nights at The Morgan, a night at the Hilton, and a couple nights at a hotel called the Harcourt. I don't know much about the Harcourt but it's only 70 pounds a night, in a good location, and the Utell website lists it as a 3 star full service hotel. Has anyone every stayed there?
