"Next time you go to LAX, don't forget that the American Airlines flights are spread across two terminals, not one, and that if you wind up at the wrong terminal and wait in line 20 minutes for the skycap to check your luggage and then find out that no, you're supposed to be at the other terminal! remember that it's a 10-minute walk back to the correct terminal with the kids and six big pieces of luggage, a 10-minute walk along a sidewalk next to shuttle buses and limos and cars with confused drivers straining to read the tiny signs and muttering under their breath that next time they're going to fly out of Burbank, even though Burbank is usually a little more expensive. Or walk. Even though it takes longer, they'll just walk to Reno or Orlando or Guadalajara. Because it has to be better than this."

You described the scene perfectly, doc. The last time we did this, trying to find our gate at Terminal 3---there was no sign saying that additional gates were in Terminal 1. Very frustrating.

The Admiral's Club is in Terminal 3, so if you're flying out of Term. 1 it's a waste of time to try to get to it. Although there is a US Airways Club near the AA gates in Term. 1, but I'm not sure Admiral's Club members have reciprocal visiting rights.

I think it's terminal 3 and 4. Admiral members can use the TWA lounge.

The Latest Information, some of which I verified this morning:

In addition to Terminal 4, which American has been using for many years, Terminal 3 is also used at this time. Door-to-door from either terminal to the other, is about a five minute walk sans luggage, add a couple extra minutes, when using luggage carts readily available throughout the airport. The terminals are separated only by the Tom Bradley International Terminal. In Los Angeles only, card carrying Admirals Club members may use their Admirals Club membership card for admittance to the TWA Ambassadors Club located in Terminal 3. This is not a reciprocal agreement. American reimburses TWA for this convenience. The Admirals Club, located in Terminal 4, near Gate 45, is open for business as usual.

Check on the day of your flight for the latest gate and terminal information.

For further clarification, American Airline passengers use Terminal 3 if your destination
is SFO or SJC. All other destinations use Terminal 4. (AA Platinum)

Not just SFO and SJC. There are a few others which I don't recall by memory. (These are the former Reno Airlines gates).

Actually AA now flys to other west coastish destinations from Terminal 3. Back a few months ago when they only had gates 32 & 33 (old QQ gates) and occasionally gate 36, Terminal 3 only served SJC & SFO. Now, they have expanded Terminal 3 operations to include many other of their "expanded West COast flights" and now have usage of gates 37 & 38.

However, AA generally has an attendant at the check in counter area in Terminal 3 who will approach you as you walk up to the line and ask you what's your destination and direct you to Terminal 4 if needed. Not much good I guess if you are not checking luggage and go straight to the gate. BEst bet is to call AA customer service and ask from which terminal you will be departing.

And if you do need to go to the US Airways terminal for any reason, Admiral's Club members do have reciprocity with the US Airways Club there.

If you ever find yourself in the San Fernando Valley, go to ART's Deli on ventura Blvd in studio city. I say that those are the best sandwiches of any deli in the World. My office was right down the street on Laurel canyon and the biggest lean roast beef sandwich was $00.55 about 35 years ago. The corned beef, etc are the best.

There is no contest with the fatty stuff I had to eat in New York on Broadway in May.

Just came through there a few minutes ago. As of July 2 there are several locations from Terminal 3 including: SFO, SJC, OAK, Orlando, Colorado Springs and some others I forget.

The easiest thing is to call ahead and find out what gate you have. Terminal 3 gates are in the 30's and terminal 4 in the 40's...
