737 vs A320
 

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody can confirm that the A320 is wider than the 737. I looked at both manufacturers website, but couldn't find the width of the Airbus. I recently got to fly in both planes and found the Airbus to be much roomier than the 737. Any opinions?

In any case, both planes are a dream compared to the BAe 146.

Anyone in their right mind (in coach at least) will fly an A320 over a 737 any day... I think all of the 737s I've ever been on have had the 'archaic' jam-packed coach seat configuration... airbuses seem to have seats that are a bit wider and like an extra inch of pitch... actually a noticeable difference. However, the clincher in my book is the noise factor... 737s (esp. the OLD ones that should've been retired 15 years ago...) are so loud you have to deafen it with a high setting on the headphones. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Airbuses actually feel like a mode of transportation, in that you're not bombarded by engine noise... my $00.02

A320 has bigger overhead bins than 737.

The Airbus 320 max. cabin width is listed at their website as 12ft 1in (3.70m). The Boeing site for some reason didn't list the interior widths for the "Classic 737s", but it did for the "Initial-model 737s", which are the 737-100s and 737-200s... their interior width is listed at 11'6"... so, assuming the same interior widths on the 737-300, then it would appear that the Airbus is indeed a bit larger, however I can't confirm that the 737-300 and up actually share the same interior width with the Initial Models...

From the Airbus 320 website under the "technical specifications", at armrest height, the A320 is 12'1".

Per the AA fleet specifications web page,the 737 is 11'3" wide (I am assuming also at armrest height).

Boeing has been running an advertisement somewhere recently where it insists the INSIDE diameter of its 737 cabins are 6" narrower than the A320. They then state that its 1/2 inch per person. It seems like a lot more, and just the fact that they have to take ads "proving" that they have the better plane makes me think they don't. As they say there are statistics and there are statistics.

The A320 is physically a little wider, but it feels much wider (in the seat). I think part of the equation is that the A320 has more vertical walls than the B737, which conveys the impression of much greater space in the cabin as a whole. Personally, I would always choose the airbus over the boeing.

Thanks for the confirmation. I am glad to see that I wasn't "seeing" things. Too bad American Airlines is going with the 737 instead of the A320
