Hotel in Kathmandu

Has any reader been to Kathmandu or can recommend a "decent" hotel to stay in?

I have scoured the Net for info on Kathmandu accommodations but all I get is a listing and links to the hotels. Not terribly helpful in determining what kind of accommodation one might expect.

Asiatravel.com lists Blue Star Hotel and Ambassador Hotel but I have no idea what they're like.

Help!

I was there about 6 years ago and loved it. The Yak and Yeti is THE big expensive hotel in the city. For a much more enjoyable time, although not close to 5 star, I'd suggest staying in Thamel. If I were you, I'd spend some time walking around to find a place, but a solid choice is the Kathmandu Guest House. Enjoy..and be sure to visit "Mike's Breakfast" for the most incredible breakfast anywhere.

Depends on your budget...as SIN1K said, the Yak and Yeti is big and expensive, the Kathmandu Guest House (they have a website I believe) is nice and reliable, and then there are literally hundreds of smaller guest houses in Thamel and other parts of Kathmandu that will charge you anywhere from $3-$20 for a room with hot water, bath, A/C when appropriate etc.
