Hilton in Milan - any good?

I am planning to stay at the Milan Hilton this coming June. Has anybody tried it? Is it any good? Is the location convinient for shopping and sightseeing? Any input would be appreciated.

located at the Airport-bus terminal in downtown Milan near (10 minutes) walk from the main railway station.

I can't judge the interior but I would personally prefer a hotel with a local (italian) touch (Starwood/Sheraton-luxury collection runs very nice/luxurious italian style hotels - they bought them from Prince Aga Khan who owned the CIGA hotels).

Have stayed there many times. Walk to Centrale station for trains, metro, and airport busses. Recently remodeled. Great nearby restuarant das Berte. Sheraton luxury collection has two properties nearby, both very nice. Avoid the Mariott Milan at all costs.

What are the negative points regarding Marriott Milan? Has anyone stayed there?

If you are into fashion or La Scala, stay at the Four Seasons for walking distance to everything. There is no substitute. http://216.167.74.240/forum/smile.gif

I have vowed to never stay again at the Marriott Milan. I am Marriott Black. I stayed there for three days just after it was converted to Marriott, from a Renasiance I think.

No computer access whatsoever from the rooms. You had to wait in lineto use a free provided local line behind their front desk. Service throughout the hotel was exceptionbally bad - obviously the property had not truly become a Marriott yet. The written response from the manager was very defensive of his staff and offered a three night stay by a date that had already expired. No thanks. Just my 2 pence.

Maybe its better now, but I won't go back.

I frequently stay at the Hilton. It has recently been remodeled interior - exterior is ugly. I agree with Rudi, the Sheraton Luxury Collection are much nicer properties than the Hilton.

Thanks World20. When was your stay? I'm planning to stay at Marriott Milan in September but if computer access is difficult, I'd better reconsider. Would love to try Four Seasons but way too expensive for me. Anyone has experience of other hotels in Milan? Input appreciated.

I stayed at Hotel Michelangelo in Milano two weeks ago. It was tastefully finished and modern. The weekend rate was $135 per night. I understand that it reasonable for the area. It's across the street from the central train terminal.

A cab from the train station to the Duomo was ~$5.50. Pretty convenient to get up in the morning, walk across the street, and get on the bus back to Malpensa.

It was a swing up from Albergo Papa in S. Pelligrino but that was only $45 per night. It was neither tastefully finished nor modern.

June 1998 at the Marriott. If you want computer access from your room make sure they upgraded their phone system - they told me they were going to do this.

I have also stayed at the Michelangelo. Location similiar to Hilton, near centrale train station. Rooms small, OK, but not great.
