Hawaii help needed

I need some help looking for information on Lihue (Poipu Point) and Maui for an upcoming trip. My question is: Am I better served by looking at sites such as Expedia or Yahoo (local) or will I find better information elsewhere?
I realize that this request is rather broad and vague, but I am looking for things of local and interest and ease of getting around (e.g., will I need a car?).
I figure this board is probably the source for useful information. I would appreciate any help. Thanks very much.

You will definitely need a car in both Kauai & Maui.

As for information, a good place to start is the different visitors bureau.

Kauaivisitorsbureau.org
visitmaui.com

Poipu Point is a good part of Kauai to stay, but defintely make an effort to drive up to the Princeville area too, it's well worth the drive.

Another site I found helpful is the 101 things to do in Hawaii website - 101things.com They have information for all HI island.

Hope this helps a little. Have fun & ALOHA!

Princeville is great for horseback riding. But Poipu is where you should stay if you like the sun. If you golf they have a 9 hole for like $25.00 pp which includes the cart. Also, in Kaui they have a great bike ride down the mountain not as nice as Maui's but still nice. In Maui they have great beaches and try to stay in Kanapalli if you like where the fun is at Lahina is great to shop and eat and see the Banyan tree. If you prefer quieter hotel than in Wailea is more out of the way. Maui has great sunset dinner cruises and also the luau's are great. I'm heading to the big island in a few weeks, but so far Maui is my favorite island. Have a great time. Mahalo
