Crew member? or UK Midlands Ideas
 

My apologies if I am making an inappropriate request in these boards but we have become desperate.
My wife and I have an already paid for self-drive canal barge (sleeps 6) reserved for April 8-15 and the other couple who was going to travel with us have to bow out because of personal problems. If we are unable to find anyone to join us then the canal barge is not allowed to leave the marina and becomes a house boat. So if there are any FTers interested please email me. Understanding that it is entirely possible that we will not get any volunteers, does anyone have any ideas for day trips in the UK midlands. We would be using Milton Keynes as our base.

Milton Keynes is possibly the single most unpleasant city in the world. I wouldn't really say it was in the Midlands - more the south-east. However, there are the following:

You are an hour from the beautiful university city of Oxford. You are also an hour from the beautiful university city of Cambridge. Both of these can be done by bus. You are ~an hour by train from London if you can get to the railway station. You are 10 minutes from Bletchley Park where the allies broke the German cyphers in WWII. In 2 hours you could be in Nottingham by car. All potentially very nice days out.

Having already seen Milton Keynes before you can see how desperately we want to get a crew member and travel the canals. Thanks James for the tips. And more important the geography lesson. It seems that I am going to have to do quite a bit of last minute planning. What else is new.
