Well, so far the only zipper that's broken is one of the two pull-tabs on a double zipper, so it's really not a problem. But I'm sure Bergman Luggage will have no issue with sending it back to Andiamo for repairs if need be.

Was in the market for a carry-on.

Looking at the
B&R 18"Vertical Carry-on $235
Samsonite 700Series/Silhouette6 Cabin Carry-on $150

Went to the B&R site. Now how can I say no to a warranty that covers "taxi driver damage, undertipped bellhop damage, rabid dog damage, dragged-five-miles-behind-a-bus damage, even airline damage?"

Wow, considering how much of a price premium Tumi has, I am surprised at how lacking their warranty is. My B&R may not have the little black tag with red writing, but I know that if a zipper breaks, no matter what, they will fix it.

Does anybody have the BR 21" carry-on (U-21G) The actual compartment measures 9" x 14" x 22". However when you measure it with the wheels and the handles it measures 9" x 14.5" x 23".

UA and DL have limits of 9" x 14" x 22". AA has 9" x 13" x 23".

Are airlines lenient on this? Especially UA and DL? Or should I settle for a the BR 18" (U-18) or another brand/model? Thanks.

Thanks to all who posted this and especially to the one who brought it forward. I have been in the market for a new garment bag for about 6 months. However, I haven't been willing to part with my "million-miler" Samsonite Ultra Valet garment bag...until now.

I looked at the Briggs & Riley site after reading all the positive comments here...went to a luggage store nearby and fell in love. What a nice looking and functional bag it seems.

Well, I ordered the 1170 bag yesterday from Santa Maria Luggage (CA) for $255 incl. shipping. Hope to get it in time for my trip next week when I'll post a first-time-user report.

Thanks again for all the info.

I have the B&R Baseline 21" Expandable Vertical w/ Garment Carrier, and haven't had any trouble carrying it aboard AA or DL - I haven't tried UA, but it does fit through DL's templates without any trouble. The only disadvantage to carrying a B&R is that on the rare occasions that I check it, I've noticed that more and more of them are coming onto the carousel - making it hard to distinguish one's own bag... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks baobab, I feel more confident about using it on my next trip instead of returning it.

My bag recently gave up the ghost on one of my trips. At that current time I was in Philadelphia. I began to search around for various brands of luggage and their warranties. My boyfriend reminded me of a time when we were in the Orlando airport and browsing a luggage store...Bon Voyage (407) 825-4488...if anyone is interested...and the sales person showed us a bag that would be replaced for all types of damage. I called the store to find out the name...it was B&R. I searched the B&R website to find out some prices and I saw that there were several stores in PHL that carried it. All of the stores had different prices. I finally found the bag I was looking for. Because I travel for such long periods of time, I needed the largest they made. I got a very good price and it has served me better than any other bag I've ever had. I always recommend this bag to everyone asking. Like mentioned before....how can you pass up such a great warranty? Not only can you send the bag off to be repaired and have it back in 3 days, but you can also take it to a B&R dealer and they will exchange the bag right then and there. I checked into many different brands, including Tumi, and when comparing price and warranty, the B&R out does all other brands.
So, if you can't tell by now, I highly recommend the Briggs and Riley.

I'm rereading this thread and just realized I never answered your request shadow...

Well the bag is great. I can get several changes of clothes in, it's in a nice green (so I can spot it, even though I can with three luggage tags.)

The big problem... sometimes it get top heavy and tilts. I guess it's in the packing.

SO I would recommend it. And Samsonite is a good brand (although the "T" brand has fans.)

I hated it when they banned supermarket shopping carts.

Just got back from my first trip using my 1170 Briggs & Riley Garment Bag (non-wheeled). Very pleased. Only bad thing is that the strap is too long for my 6' frame and I can't shorten it anymore due to the shoulder pad on the strap. With the bag hanging so low, it hits the back of my knee with every step...not a fun thing for connecting through ATL!

Overall, a nice bag at a great price. Oh, and it fit easily in the bins of both a 757 and MD-88.
