I just checked out the photos on the 777 on the previously mentioned website. How funky looking?
This is really cool. When you hit the site hit CO and colorful paint schemes.

Completely divergent:
Best of the worst --
Hughes AirWest's flying bananas
Braniff's multi-coloured nightmares
Southworst's nasty colours (that remind me of a certain board we're all sooooo fond of)...

Best:
The white and sky blue of COntinental: It looks like airplanes used to: no flash, no fanfare
The grey and blue of United Airlines: modern, and special FOUR PAWS UP for the Star Alliance planes
*THe special red, white and blue planes of SOuthwest.
I'm not that familiar with the overseas carriers but I like British and Royal Jordanian.
The worst:
*U=S Airways: Black is depressing
*Ordinary Southwest: those colors make me sick.

Is United's livery slightly more hazardous in fog? During a morning flight in fog at one of this airline's major cities, I found that these planes were harder to see. The old British Airways has a similar shade of gray.
I don't dislike the UA livery as far as asthetics nor do I dislike the airline.
As far as the ugliest domestic livery, I'd say American (old fashion late 60's type of design) or Southwest. The old SAS was better than the new.
I like the liveries of Northwest, Alaska, Lufthansa, and ANA-All Nippon.

Slightly off-topic--how can you tell which is the real owner of a Star Alliance plane? I spotted one at ORD two weeks ago (noticed it only had the five original carriers). If the front carrier is the real one, it was SK's (which makes sense, parked at T5).

Silverpie... you're right. The primary carrier is the one at the very front of the aircraft on any of the Star Alliance special airplanes.

Kokonutz... the Simpsons jet was from the now-defunct Western Pacific Airlines. All of the 'LogoJets' have now been sold or returned back to lessors, and repainted. Bummer.

I really like the BA World designs. Definitely more interesting than the old-folks crest.
Also like the vibrant blue of KLM.
In the US? UA has a nice, professional looking color scheme.
I do like Air New Zealand's tail - the blue and green colors work well together.
I hate Southwest, and Japan Airlines has so many variations on its one design that it gets confusing - some of their 'Hawaii' planes feature birds, flowers and all kinds of other stuff. Very confusing!

The colors of the airline that are the most forward on the plane (around the nose) is the airline that operated the plane.
For example: http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=53161
is operated by SAS
US Airways is my favorite scheme, followed by United and the clean-and-classy Continental.
I hate the new DL colors, but liked the old ones.

By the way, I just found a picture of the new version of the Star Alliance plane. Instead of having the full paint schemes, it just has logos. I liked the old ones better, but most of the Star airline have just bare bodies, so it wasn't that interesting.
This plane is operated by ANA.
