Hotels in Syracuse, NY

Which are the nicest hotels in Syracuse and how far are they located from the airport? I'm not necessarily looking for a hotel near the airport, so those suggestions are not necessary, but just where the nicer hotels are located, relative to the airport.

Just about all the syracuse hotels are within 6 or 7 miles of the airport. It's a very small city.

I wouldn't use the term Great or Excellent for any hotel there. Most of the hotel are chains and the liverpool and east syracuse.

The best of the lot is probably the Embassy Suites in East Syracuse.

Basicaly agree with Boomer here, but the good thing is that prices are not very high since there are many choices (except when there's something going on at the University. I'd only add that there is a Sheraton University Hotel, which is acceptable if you want Starwood credit and that in East Syracuse there is also a decent full service Marriott and a Courtyard as well. The Marriott, though nothing special, would generally be my choice here.

I've been to the Courtyard ($99) and the Embassy ($149) in the last month, and if you're looking for points/cheapness, take the Courtyard. The Embassy, as usual, had much bigger rooms and far more amenities.

Thanks for all the responses. My purpose in posting was to learn the names of the top hotels in Syracuse so I could look up their weeknight rates to use as a basis for my Priceline.com bid.

I thought I'd follow up as it may benefit those of you who travel to Syracuse. Priceline's top category for Syracuse is 3 star. Since Marriotts are typically 3 star properties and it was posted here that there is a Marriott in Syracuse, I went to their website. It shows no main line Marriott in Syracuse, but rather Courtyard, Fairfield Inn and maybe others. Is it possible that the Marriott that was mentioned here is now operated by a different hotelier?

So then I checked the Sheraton University. The lowest available rate was the AAA rate of $103.50/night, so that's what I based my bid on.

I first bid $49 for a 3 star hotel in Priceline's "University" zone. The bid was rejected. I then bid $59 for both the "University" zone and the "East Syracuse" zone. Again, rejected. I then bid $69 for the same 2 zones. Accepted at the Radisson Plaza Hotel Syracuse. A quick check of their website showed the lowest available rate for the subject date as $99.

So while percentage-wise I've done far better through Priceline than 30% off lowest published non-government rate, I'm still pleased that we got what appears to be a very nice hotel with a $30 savings.

Of course I posted this at the Yahoo Club I set up to discuss Priceline bids http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/pricelinedeals

The Marriott is/was on Rt298 near Carrier Circle in suburban East Syracuse- at least as of the end of last year (Nov?).

The Marriott on Carrier Circle was there back in the spring - I had a daytime meeting there. The facilities seemed nice, but I didn't see the rooms.
