This has got on the Tourist Trap list.

All resturants automatically add 15% on your bill if one doesn't pay attention he/she will be paying 30% on tips!

Actually Miami Bayside is O.K.. Yes, it is a tourist place - you don't find natives there(1), however, most of the the venues have self service - and no tip at all!
They started to add tip; Europeans did not give a tip at all. It's not allowed to ad a tip (unless shown on the menue ... for more than 6 or so people..)
Last year a restaurant was in deep trouble ... they added a tip on the bill for an african american. He sued - discrimination - and won. Now most Miami restaurants don't add tip anymore - the bill comes with a small slip "asking" for a tip!

Umm... I was in MIA about 2 weeks ago, and I ate at some Chinese restaurant away from the tourist area: on Biscayne around 26th. I was surprised that for a party of 2, the tip was automatically included when they ran the credit card. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/frown.gif I said something to the waiter, and I didn't dispute it but I didn't leave any extra.

I was in MIA 3 weeks ago and Ocean Drive automatically add 17%, Lincon Rd 15% and everywhere else we went automatically added 15% too.

What I really hated was when the added the tip on and then their credit card slip had ADD. TIP on it so you think it hadn't been included. I just drew a line through it. Don't mind paying a tip for good service and good food. But they should give you the choice.

I was at "La Gastronomia" in Coral Gables last week - no tip added. Also not at "Sport Cafe" Washington Av., South Beach.

Almost all the restaurants in Miami Beach, and many in Miami add the tip to the bill. This is not to be rude or greedy, and not related to the suit by the African American (his tip was added by a restaurant that never added the tip, but now they add it to everyone). The tips are added in Miami because there are so many South Americans visiting or living here and in S. America one customarily pays nominal tips in restaurants - less than 10%. Also, there are a lot of European tourists here, and many of them are used to having the tips included in the bill, and, as a result, they think the tip is included.
