Malaysia Airlines
Greetings! Myself and two friends will be traveling to SE Asia in October on Malaysia Airlines via the "Access Asia Pass" they are offering for $747 r/t. Their website leaves a little bit to be desired. I've never flown Malaysia Airlines before...can anyone tell me about their 'economy class service' and other helpful information?? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

34" pitch, PTV's, and a young fleet of 744, 772, and 330's on their longer flights, i.e. an above average product in economy class IMO. Domestic flights are mostly on older 734's with 32" pitch.
No miles on this fare, but an excellent deal nonetheless. |
Thanks Monahos, sounds like the best bang for the buck in a long time. For that small fare, we are visiting: BKK, SIN, HKT, KUL (we have to change planes here every time!) and DPS. All this for under $1000...not too shabby!

Malaysia is not too bad. They have reasonable service but you also might want to know that they tend to fly very low on fuel. Not that long ago they didn't have enough fuel to go around LHR, so they put all their cards on landing the first time which luckily they did.
Now, would you drive your car in the middle of a major city in peak time with fuel gauge below zero? |

Thanks for all the input! I guess I should just hope they don't run out of fuel before we reach our destination! Although, I wonder how Spider knows this fact??

I just flew half a dozen legs on MH 777, 330, and 734.
34" pitch on widebodies. 777 seats have PTV's, legrests, lumbar support, 'wings', and yes do have thick seatbacks, but are very comfortable. My first economy flights in a long time without a backache. 330 seats are no frills but are thin, I could cross my legs in Y (I'm about 5'10"). I flew C on 734's, it's similar to US domestic F. Great service on domestic flights. For some reason, the crew was almost exclusively male, mildly professional, but diligent on the AMS-KUL leg. All stewardesses on my domestic flights, one of them even spoke French, and all of them were very competent and attentionate. MH lounges in KUL have showers and hot food. No showers but hot food also in most Malaysian lounges. The new KLIA Ekspres train shuttle is very good, similar to the HKG one in efficiency and speed. Check-in at XKL (city air terminal) was almost empty. |
Sounds awesome Monahos, thanks! For anyone else interested, I found a great web site with tons of valuable information:
www.airlinequality.com I think many of you "afficionados" may already know about it. It's great to be able to find out what's going on with various airlines throughout the world. |
terenz: I can't seem to find a trans-Pacific carrier that offers an economy class with greater than 34" pitch??? I can't attest to seat-thickness but 34" was the largest I've found.
Let's not even talk about some of those 14 hour flights with 31" pitch! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/eek.gif |

Originally posted by Spider: There was a posting on these boards about a certain Asian carrier who had just enough fuel for one landing attempt at LHR. Another poster revealed that this carrier was MH. Since the poster involved was credible then I used his info. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/...000/339810.stm |
Very interesting. Thanks, milehighj for sharing that. I hope they have "cleaned" up their act by now! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/frown.gif
