AMSTERDAM hotels
Will be in Amsterdam Ocober 19-22. Looking for inexpensive hotels, near Central Station etc. Anyone hear about the "Royal Taste" hotel? Seems the phone number has been disconnected. Trying to keep the room rate under $100.00 a nite. Thanks

I am not sure about rates, but the Swissotel is right by the Dam Square, fairly close to Centraal Station. It is a nice, modern hotel. I enjoyed the service when I stayed their last year.

I am unsure why you want to stay by the Central Station as it is among Amsterdam's grottier area.
I can recommend the beautiful, and I mean beautiful Ambassade. Whether that is under $100 these days I have no idea. It is always busy as it is simply the best hotel in Amserdam and has a beautiful quiet location on the Herrengracht. |
Sometimes the best deals can be had upon arrival at Amsterdam Central Station by going to the VVV office. (tourist and booking office) and having them get you a room.

http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...ML/000018.html By far the best deal going in AMS is booking a room at either the Renaissance or the Marriott through Priceline. People have gotten prices as low as $60 a night in those ***** hotels. The Renaissance is a 5 minutes walk from Centraal, the Marriott is the Museum district. I ended up getting a deluxe room at the Renaissance at $90 a night on Priceline UK booking only 5 days in advance, after having a lower bid rejected on Priceline US. Do try the other service if your first bid is rejected. FYI, Priceline paid $99 for my room according to the Marriott website. If you are a Marriott Rewards member, you can even get credit at this rate and, if staying at the Renaissance, get the ongoing 1000 miles bonus on UA or DL if signed up for the miles options. |
I'm one of those lucky souls who got a great deal at the renaissance via priceline uk.
I'll be there next tues-mon, total price was #305, including taxes and fees...about 70 dollars a night at the time. Priceline paid 99, rack was still over 200. |
I just got got back from my first visit there, what a wonderful city.
We went to the tourist booking office at central station and got the AMS City Centre Hotel (about a 15 minute walk from the station) for about $70 a night. (checking online it seems to be going for about $125-ish.) I think it's about a 3***, our rooms are tiny but very funky, newly refurbished and very clean, almost a 'boutique' hotel style-wise. The included breakfast was fine, and it's right across from a tram stop, very convienient. The nieghborhood didn't strike me as particularly grotty, but I used to live on the lower east side. Have a great time! |
I'm going November 22 - 25. Looking for something just out of the central district, about 20 minute walk max from the train station. Last trip I stayed at a budget hotel on Dam square but found it to loud and busy. Any suggestions??
Sorry to piggy back Vegas.. |

I just booked on Priceline for $60 a night (plus $10 bonus money), and got the Marriott, which is just outside Vondel Park, for Oct 26-29. It's probably more than a 20 minute walk (maybe 30 at most), but it's right on a tram line, so you could easily get out there from the central railway station. I've walked by it a number of times when I've stayed out in that direction in the past. It's close to museums, too, and just off the Leidseplein area. It prices out at 195 euros on the Marriott site (around $US175) so it is a pretty good deal.
I was surprised I got it. A lot of properties I checked on line did not have availability this weekend, or were well out of my price range. [This message has been edited by tom911 (edited 10-19-2001).] |
