The Pfister Hotel, http://www.pfister-hotel.com/, is part of the Preferred Hotels Group, and is a nice, classic older hotel in downtown Milwaukee.
And if you are a fan of the movie Blue Velvet, you may appreciate that they stock Pabst Blue Ribbon in their mini-bars.

Check out the Hotel Metro. Its on the corner of Milwaukee and Mason. New in the past 2 years, A retro, art deco theme. I've not stayed there, but I here the rooms are great. I've eaten in the restaurant and its fantastic.
