How do in-flight delays occur?
If there is a better thread in which to post this, a moderator may kindly move this there.
I wound up on FlightAware tonight.
I managed to find a flight, UA 1505, which (on FlightAware) reported it departed EWR at 09:00 [ET].
It is still in the air.
It is reported to arrive at DEN at 02:58+1 [MT] - four hours and six minutes late.
Weather is not a factor.
Passengers on this flight are going to ask more livid questions about this; but for observers such as I, how does this occur? What happened on this flight?

It wasn't an airborne delay. The flight took a long ground delay after pushback in EWR. They then returned to the gate due to a passenger(s) wanted to get off. At that point, the flight attendants times out and a new crew had to be brought in before they could depart again.
