First Fun Flight

GEEK OUT ALERT:

Hello all, just found and booked a significantly sub $300 FC route, same -day return, hitting 3 hubs (end of September to get 2x stuff). My first flights since COVID and I am so excited just to play on the app and move my seats!!! Sorry to those not thrilled like me.

Care to share what this routing is?

HUH? Low EQDs, EQM, and RDMs....... So I don't understand

Not to mention the state of the ACs and restaurants/retail within airports, limited service that you might have to fight for onboard even in first class, having to wear a mask, etc.

I'm definitely a "getting there is half the fun" kind of person but I don't see much if any "fun" in flying just for fun these days.

I assume the OP is talking about the 2x RDM summer promotion. Personally I still find flying enjoyable. I've made EXP just on $9K EQDs and currently as a low spend EXP the upgrade level is back to what it was like as an EXP 15 years ago. In other words near 100% (in fact I haven't missed an upgrade since mid March). So what I have to wear a mask. Yeah it's a pain in the butt but I can deal with it.

Unlike people that get induced by the non stop panic porn I've concentrated on building my immune system and maintaining the best health for my age (which granted the free booze in F doesn't help in that regards). There's no guarantees but there's no guarantee that an uninsured motorists won't plow into me and injure/kill me (a real possibility living in Miami). The hotel deals are great and hotels are not crowded. Since I can work from anywhere and have flexibility in my day I'm able to travel for cheap, see places I want to see and still be "on the clock."

I've tried to like it but it's just not the same. I wear a mask but it's not a "so what," it's an annoyance. So is the hit or miss F&B service. So is the lackluster AC offering.

I'm still going to fly, because flight is magical. But the experience is pretty sad these days.

I will pass on flying just for fun.... ok a little pissed,... just about to cancel our trip to Hawaii after the new requirements... its rough.. had J seats(lie flats) .. oh well..
going to book maldives instead..

Since we're on the topic of AvGeek/Fun flights, anyone here do any of the few Milk Runs still in existence? I did the one in Alaska last year and that was definitely unforgettable, even if it wasn't in a Combi.

I am flying American Airlines (i should have mentioned in OP so i wouldn't get moved) GRR-DFW-ORD-CLT-GRR....today the price is $30 less than i paid last night.....will rebook then cancel original as its still within24 hrs....I dont mind masks as i wear one for 8 hours each work day (5).......not doing it for simply for miles/status, doing it because it is 4 flights in first, one leg 788, i enjoy flying, I've had COVID-19 so not very worried. Few bevvies inflight and at clubs will make for a good day!

Have fun, just keep in mind YMMV in regards to FA's and how proactive they are with service. Some will come up and ask if you need anything, some you have to ring the button/get their attention, some very grudgingly will get it, and some outright refuse.

I fly this routing tomorrow, i will report back on service and such...GRR to DFW looks almost full (yes i know seat maps....)

So indeed the first leg was full. They asked for a volunteer and i took the 400 credit (should have asked for more) and then also took full refund for the purchased flight)...having my own boozy coffee at home right now that i would have had inflight....cheers and safe travels!!!
