If I referred to Taiwan as part of China, one of my best friends would no longer be my friend. She won't fly the Taiwanese flag because it includes the KMT emblem and she considers the KMT too pro-unionist.

Take another look at my previous post. Victoria City, HK

My total is 97 capitals of sovereign states/UN member states. Annoyingly not quite into three figures! I have been to another 30 or so more countries without visiting the capital ((for instance Norway and Namibia) and also a lot of overseas territories such as French Polynesia, St Eustatius and Tristan da Cunha. So if I added places like Papeete, Noumea, Gothaab, Macao, Hong Kong etc the total would be well over 150.
Here's my list -

Algiers, Algeria
Andorra la Vella, Andorra
Luanda, Angola
St John’s, Antigua & Barbuda

Quito, Ecuador
Cairo, Egypt
San Salvador, El Salvador

I love these questions because they remind me there is so much I haven't seen yet. Time to get busy.

My list of "capital cities" visited coincides nearly perfectly with "countries visited":

Americas
1. Washington DC (USA)
2. Ottawa (Canada)
3. Santiago (Chile)
4. Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago)

Europe
5. Paris (France)
6. London (UK)
7. Madrid (Spain)
8. Copenhagen (Denmark)
9. Rome (Italy)
10. Monte Carlo (Monaco)
11. Brussels (Belgium)
12. Amsterdam (Netherlands)
13. Vatican (Vatican)

Asia
14. Bangkok (Thailand)
15. Taipei (Taiwan)
16. Beijing (China)
17. Singapore (Singapore)
18. Tokyo (Japan)
19. Vientiane (Laos)
Also been to Hong Kong.

The only state that I've been to whose capital I haven't been to is Germany, and that's only because of a very quick cross-border excursion from Denmark (and I mean "very" in the order of 5 minutes or so, so in some respects it doesn't even count); and Berlin is high on my list of next places to visit so once that's done the list will coincide perfectly.

Are you including...

... capitol cities of countries which no longer exist? And "countries" (like the Confederate States of America)?
