What Now Closed Airports Did You Fly Out of Before They Were Closed
Given the closings in the last 6 months of both ETH and SDV airports in Eilat and Tel Aviv, I thought I'd start a thread about this. How many closed airports have you flown out of?
In my case it's ETH,SDV, DEN (Stapleton), the old AUS
On non-commercial flights, Carmel Valley, CA and Bader Field, Atlantic City, NJ

Wholly closed airports (as opposed to just demolished terminals)...Stapleton is the one that comes to mind for me.

- Stapleton
- Meigs Field, Chicago (CGX) (some may remember from the original Microsoft Flight Simulator) — closed 2003; eventually converted to a park
- Oneida County Airport (UCA) — closed 2007
- Panama City FL (PFN) — closed after airline service moved to Northwest Florida Beach Cities (ECP) in 2010; land transferred to local authorities for redevelopment
- Naval Air Stations at Glenview (NBU, Chicago area) and Alameda (NGZ, Oakland) — both closed (1999 and 1997); land transferred to local authorities for redevelopment
- Marine Corps Air Station El Toro (NZJ, Orange County) — closed 1999; land transferred to local authorities for partial redevelopment

Do airports that moved -- i.e., closed, but whose code moved to the new location -- count? If so, then the old DOH and IST for me.

Denver, Hong Kong, Taipei (when their one airport was international and domestic--it might still be used for domestic flights), IST (soon to be the same situation IIRC), old PIT (before the new terminal with shopping was built shortly before 9/11), old DTW (when PMNW used that awful old terminal), old SVO, old BCN, West Berlin (supposed to close sometime, perhaps far in the future).

XDEN- Stapleton. Miserable place, very low ceilings.
XIST- Atatrk. Couldnt get enough of the lounge...unfortunately, the rest of the airport also existed.
XDOH- Liked the Premium Terminal, though it had lackluster food. The main terminal was also Stapleton-esque, but more crowded.
Cant think of others at the moment

For me, off the top of my head:
XHKG
XIST
XMDT
Maybe one day I can say XTXL (or never, given the state of BER affairs)

Off the top of my head:
DEN - Stapleton Airport
IST - Ataturk Airport
Not sure if this counts, but ONT is now a wholly different airport terminal than in the past. In the 1990's a new airport terminal complex was built and the original terminal was abandoned. The older terminal has been frequently used in TV and movies when a mid-century airport vibe required it, notably Leonardo DiCaprio in "Catch Me If You Can"

Also, I should have said that XIST is still used for cargo flights.
Still thinking about other airports...for terminals no longer extant, FNJ (Pyongyang) comes to mind.

Anyway, I didn't know this about ONT, so I will also add XONT to my list.
