2 night get away--recommendations?
I need to get away and clear my mind. Unfortunately I'm still hurting from so and so losing interest in me and completely flaking out. Even worse is I got close with her two little girls too. Shame.
Anyway I'm looking to get away over the July 4th weekend. I love the gulf side of FL but fares are $1000 to the gulf cities. Yes I know it's two weeks away and yes it's a holiday weekend but this is FL, not Tahiti prices. However, head east to the Atlantic side (not a fan) and I can get fares half that into FLL and MIA. I have zero wish to go to MIA though but wouldn't mind driving to Marathon and just hang out. I wanted to try the panhandle as Iv'e never been to PNS but I'm not paying $1000 to fly there even if it's on a mad dog. Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful city and Cancun has the nice beaches so that's also an option. Good news is all of these cities are non stop. Any suggestions where I can sulk and drink my sadness away are appreciated. |

If you do 7/4-7/6, DFW-TPA is $249 on DL (so you have to connect through ATL), but you'll still be in TPA by the time fireworks start.

Why not just drive down to Galveston, Port Aransas, or Corpus Christi?
Although this late in the game, there probably isn't much left for places to stay. |
DFW to SoCal for $330 R/T on AA if you can fly back on the Monday night redeye. Lots of outbound options and multiple airport choices.

Just a thought, drive to Biloxi, MS or you could fly. About an 8 hour ride on good roads. Biloxi has nice white sand beaches, some nice casino/hotel properties and is pretty laid back.

Mississippi?? Would Davie approve?
Lol |
If you're trying to forget a woman just suck it up and head to Bangkok.

Palm Springs/Palm Desert. There won't be anybody there and you should be able to get a room on short notice for the 4th of July weekend.

thanks all for the suggestions. I have no desire to go to SAN or PSP.
Biloxi looks cool but the hampton right on the beach is sold out (obviously not surprisingly). PNS is a possibility too as the fares are cheaper if I go W-F. I have no wish to go (back) to CRP as my old job brought me there often. FLL and MIA still seem to be a relative bargain. Not sure why. SRQ, TPA, RSY all $1000 airline tickets. That's crazy. Thanks for the DL flight info but I only fly one (regrettably) airline. |

Seriously - it is a big bar town and you can go check out Niagara Falls while you're there. |

After your last trip, it doesn't sounds like a weekend getaway flying would be very relaxing. ;)
Come down to Austin, stay downtown. You can walk/run around Town Lake (aka Lady Bird Lake). Do some stand-up paddleboarding (or just watch). Hang out at Barton Springs. Go out to Hippie Hollow. There's quite a bit going on all the time, including multipe things for the July 4 holiday. The downtown Hilton is going for $230/night over that weekend, but there's other HIlton properties that are a bit less. Frisco to Austin is about a 3-1/2 hour drive. Once you're here, you really don't want to drive much (maybe to Hippie Hollow or elsewhere at one of the lakes). I'd take Uber. |
DFW-RSW 7/4-7/7 $819.... but you can can get 3 nights @ Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort for 3 nights for $563.00 all in.
