Do any current airlines offer external camera view on IFE?
Similar to (sometimes) being able to hear the cockpit radio on an audio channel, are there any airlines or aircraft with external cameras that allow IFE screens to display the outdoor view for middle/aisle seats?

Not really a side view, more a straight down view, but many airlines do. I can immediately think of AY, LH, TK, all of which I've flown recently and had it (the first two on their 350 and 380 respectively and I can't remember which type of plane TK used where it was available). I think it's pretty standard on 350s and 380s.

Emirates have it on their new B777 F Suite. The middle suite has virtual windows that show the outside view.

Qatar Airways does on their A350s (and probably other planes)

Last fall LH had it on their A350 flying both ways between DEN and MUC.

Hi,
I have had it onthe Cathay Pacific A350s Regards TBS |
I had it yesterday on an Air France 777-300. Camera faces forward and a little down. They had it active during taxi and takeoff, then for approach and landing.
|
Cathay on the 777's. Thai have them, but have only seen it on the older 777's so far. Looks like the camera is on the nose wheel door.
|
Emirates A380. Active throughout the flight including approach and landing.
I seem to recall having it on an SAS A340 about a decade ago as well. |
It's been a few years, but the Emirates A380 had multiple views last time I flew it - forward, backward, straight down - that you could cycle through. Gate to Gate.

I've been on ANA 777s seeing the touch-down at Haneda but on two occasions the camera has been switched off for the approach.
I guess with ANA it's up to the pilot whether you get to see the landing on TV or not. |
