and I thought it takes 1-2h to/from the plane
Stories about how quickly it can happen to get on a plane - or of it and back home/hotel/..
=== Sunday was a nice day in terms of going airside, boarding, deboarding, landside and home. Was travelling by train from some valley deep down in Switzerland to ZRH. Arrived at trains platform #1 at ZRH and walked to Check-in 1 directions, scanned BP for fast-track security. No queue, no issues. Headed to SEN Lounge in A. Elapsed time between leaving train and lightning up cigarillo in lounge: 14min. From A-Lounge to Gate A86 (only one more further out in this concourse): 5min. After arriving parking position, almost immediately LX captain announced that we'd have to wait for the jetbridge due to shortage of personell. Well, the bridge was there within 2-3min. Must be some LX/HAM thing, have read more overheard complaints of LX pilots about HAM.. Anyway, door 1L opens and I head out for a Taxi (~1min wait) and I am back home at my desk around 12min after leaving my seat in 3F. So in "tara" terms, this took me 14+5+12 = 31min to "waste" outside the actual flight including some detour to a lounge (cut down ~3min not going there). Disclaimer: no passport controls (out/in) had to be passed. Maybe some story on about how status and carry-on can matter :-) |

I've walked in the front of several airports and been in my seat on the plane within 4-5 minutes. ABQ and OKC some to mind.

From stepping off the parking shuttle bus to being at my gate, at my home airport, DAY, normally takes all of 5 minutes. I have Precheck, but even regular security wouldn't take much longer from what I've seen. Checking a bag normally only adds a few minutes at most. The longest part of the whole process is the drive from my house or office to the parking lot - still only ~20 minutes.

Taking taxi from home and be at the gate at SIN - my home airport does not take more than 30 min. And 25 min from it is taxi ride. |

And SMX, ONT, YGK, YCD, YQB, etc. |
Yes, I suspect many FT members can add their own experiences. Pretty much any small airport with <10 gates probably has less than a couple hundred yards of total walking and no security wait line, at least during non-peak times.

I’m usually home in 20 minutes from wheels down. |
I have precheck and clear. If I have no luggage to check, I can park in the BWI garage and be at the gate in 10 mins.
|
MCI has always been this way for me, although for the next few years it's going to be a bit of a <redacted by moderator> while they build the new terminal.
|
Dropped the car at the off-site parking at 8:30, shuttle to YYZ T1, through security and on the plane by 8:45. Boarding didn't finish for another 10 minutes so I had plenty of time to spare.
|
Off-peak hours in BOS is also pretty quick - just hopped on a flight to DC area and I went from curb-to-gate in ~10 min.
