Why is your airline's flight #1...#1?

Interested to hear if there's any symbolism to glean from your frequent airline's flight #1 . What makes it *number one*? Jokes and jabs welcome, too (including speculation as to why some flights are numbered as #1!)

It's usually the flagship flight of an airline

British Airways 1 - formerly Concorde, now all J class A318 LCY-SNN-JFK
United 1 - SFO-SIN
Alaska 1 - DCA-SEA
American 1 - JFK-LAX
Delta 1 - JFK-LHR
Lufthansa 1 - HAM-FRA, ok, not so high profile
Air Canada 1 -YYZ-HND (Toronto to Tokyo Haneda)
Qantas 1 -SYD-SIN-LHR
Singapore 1 - SFO-HKG-SIN
Air New Zealand 1 - LHR-LAX-AKL

PA 1 & PA 2 were RTW flights, IIRC.

CP 1 and CP 2 used to be CP's YVR-Asia route (either NRT or HND before that) and maybe onto HKG. I forget now.

D7 1 and D7 2 are the number of Air Asia X,s KUL-KIX-HNL route.

Oh, I see the original post is about "my" airline.

No, with all these "enhancements", I have no loyalty to any airline. Of course, I have slight favorites and frequent flyer program strategy but not enough to designate an airline as "mine". Sorry.

Useful to have some data to get us started, all the same.

BA1 being Concorde made a lot of sense, and apparently AF1 was also Concorde. Although in both cases they apparently only got "promoted" to that in 1992 - https://forums.flightsimlabs.com/ind...duled-flights/

And QF1 used to be SYD-BKK-LHR then QF1 changed to SYD-DXB-LHR and..

https://www.ausbt.com.au/qantas-ditc...ngapore-london
From March 25 2018, the flagship QF1/QF2 Sydney-London Airbus A380 service will run via Singapore instead of Dubai, replacing one of the two daily Sydney-Singapore A330 flights.
So for Qantas, QF1 is used for the flagship flight from Sydney to London via what ever transit port is used en route.

I imagine that if there was ever a direct SYD-LHR then that would be assigned the coveted QF1 designation.

JL1 is SFO-HND, I'm not sure if there's any significance behind that.

NH1 is IAD-NRT, which does connect the capitals, but isn't the most highly trafficked route.

QR1 is DOH-LHR, which is a flagship route for QR

I really wonder why;

WN 1 Dallas Love Field - Houston Hobby - Corpus Christi ( first part makes sense, it's the two major airports that Southwest flies, while no other carrier flies that much - but not the second part )

LOT 1/2 being Chicago makes complete sense and is a clear reference to the historic and ties - Chicago is (or at least was) the largest Polish community outside Warsaw.

I believe that at one time UA1 was used for their around the world flight.

AFAIK the lowest flight numbers LX operates are LX6/8/9, which is ZRH-ORD

There used to be an LX4 (ZRH-LAX), but that was renumbered at some point to LX40

Not sure if SR had an SR1 flight...

IIRC, at some point in time, UA 1 was ORDHNL? early/mid-2000s?

CX does not appear to have a "1". I could only find reference to a cargo flight!
