Expensive flights Feb 14 - 18th

What is it about this weekend (Family Day in Canada unlikely) that has price charts looking like a mountain?

Presidents Day is Feb 18 in U.S. That is a Monday and a reason for folks to take a long weekend

Valentine’s Day?

February school half-term?

Give us a clue where you’re flying to and you might get your answer!

This is going to be pretty route-dependent.

U.S.-Europe flights are cheap: we've gone to several different cities over the U.S. President's Day weekend. Crazy-cheap fares for a 4-night stay or whatever.

This year, we're flying MCI-LAX that weekend. Four seats, $69 per person each way on WN. That's the lowest LA fare I ever see on any carrier not named Spirit.

President's Day is a big ski weekend for many people. Maybe that carries over to Canadian ski resorts? That would be the extreme early end of American college spring breaks...it's probably not that. Earliest spring breaks I'm aware of are the Michigan schools that seem to go the last weekend in February.

February vacation week. Everyone in the northeast tends to be going somewhere else that week. It sucks. Especially Florida flights.

Without knowing the route, it's impossible to say why this is.

If it's China or anywhere Chinese New Year is celebrated, then it's that.
If it's a US ski resort or maybe beach location, it's President's Day.
If it's Canada, maybe it really is that Family Day or whatever it's called.
It's probably a little on the early end for Carnival / Mardi Gras - that's first week of March this year - but I don't know how early places like New Orleans, Venice, Rio, etc. start the party.

Or some really localized special event for that city...

President's day weekend for the US. Kids are off school for 4-5 days. I was trying a Disney trip with the kids and for 2 days with 2 kids, it'd be nearly $5000 with airfare, hotel and tickets. I could put that $5k to better use.

Presidents' Day is big in the US Caribbean so if you are going to/from there it will be expensive.
