Female voice that announces time on the hour: same at all US airports?

At East Coast airports that I fly through, the same female voice seems to make some announcements. For example, on the hour, a gong-type noise sounds and the female voice announces, “The local time is... o’clock” or the like. I heard the exact same voice at CLT and other airports recently.

Strange but minor question: is this an FAA or TSA requirement? Otherwise, why is the voice the same in numerous airports?

Yes, I know I clearl fly too much!

I have never once noticed the time announced in an airport except at Chicago (to remind people of the time zone).

I have never heard this in any US airport, including ORD.

I can't recall ever hearing a time announcement, but there is one lady that does recorded voice announcements for many airports around the world (e.g. flight boarding, security reminders, etc.)... I saw a piece about her awhile back but don't remember the details.

Now I'm going to have to pay attention the next time I'm at the airport...

I don't recall hearing the time of day in any airport. Maybe just me not paying attention...

I recall an NPR piece a couple years about the lady whose voice we hear all the time in U.S. airports and train stations. The story had a blurb about the U.K. version too - a lady whose voice is known well to anyone who rides the Tube.

I've noticed that same voice at a few airports as well. If it's the same one I have in mind, it's used at my home airport, DAY.

It wouldn't be related to any FAA or TSA requirements - it's simply a convenience feature for passengers. The most likely reason is that they all happened to have purchased the clock system from the same vendor...or that multiple such vendors happened to use the same voice recording in their product. I'd guess the former.

The voice definitely exists at DCA, alternating with the USO lounge announcement. I can't recall having heard it at IAD.

I wonder if it's the same voice that says...

"The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone."

Is this a real thing or just in the movies?

That one, I have definitely heard. I cannot for the life of me remember ever hearing an announcement on the hour, though. CLT is my current home airport.

The recording in the soundtrack of Airplane begins with exactly what was repeated endlessly for decades from speakers near the arrivals lanes at LAX. It was maddening.
