Why no footrests on airline seats? Trains and buses have them...

With so many issues about feet on armrests, tray tables and bulkheads why don't Airlines install these on planes? I know, preaching to the Choir but it boggles my mind that on a bus or train I have a comfy seat and a foot rest. There might be a logical reason for this such as safety but seems like these should be incorporated into economy airline seats....There could even be a premium fee to use them, of course that would only be the reason airlines would invest in passenger comfort.

Could this be way to keep feet off of the bulkhead and armrests.

You can see how they fold out of the way on this bus photo.

Some airlines used to have them, heck some might still, but my guess is they aren't more prevalent because weight in an airplane == $$.

Some trains have them. Amtrak's standard Amfleet coach cars on the NEC do not - the long distance coaches do.

In addition to the weight comments above, airlines strongly encourage underseat storage, which would compete with footrests.

And footrests detract from comfort, rather than adding to it, IMO.

That was my first thought.

IMHO, preference for footrests correlates pretty well inversely to height.

As this is not specific to any particular airline, we will move it for broader exposure and input.

Note: many airlines do offer footrests and more comfortable seats for higher pric sin Premium Economy.

I am of moderate height and love footrests. Unfortunately the ones in the 772 soon to be PE seats are a little too short so my feet are always sliding off them.

They are a major help for my leg circulation (taking the pressure off the back of the thighs).

Kids and small passenger will like them. For everyone else they may be more inconveniencing than anything else. For what it's worth, many airlines used to have them in economy.

For those who love footrests, search for foot slings for planes -- plenty of options that slip around the tray table on the seat in front of you.

Depends on which airlines and region you’re talking about. Can’t recall an airline in India that doesn’t have them. Even the larger LLCs IIRC have them. As do (almost) all the long haul carriers.
For airlines who don’t have it... I think it’s a being cheap thing not a weight thing.
