The obvious benefit is that you get to fly in Business Class.

Bonus frequent-flyer miles that count towards elite status.

The realization of how much life is relative. For several thousand dollars more you can spend 8 hours in a steel tube sitting/laying on a seat that is 5% as comfortable as your couch at home, scrolling through entertainment system with 1% the content volume of Netflix.

But damn if it's not a whole lot better than sitting in economy and sitting in a chair that is 1/5 as comfortable as a 30 year old Greyhound bus seat and packed tighter than a Shanghai subway, watching that same mediocre selection of entertainment on a 7 inch screen - and for that, you feel like you're in luxury!

A modicum of sleep on an overnight flight, rather than effectively zero sleep. Which means that the next couple of days are moderately productive as opposed to wasted. Other than that, a handful extra miles, quite a few extra status miles, depending upon the airline, and lounge access if you don't already get it.

I can't beat that answer but to provide a bit more info to OP:
- more flexibility for changes & cancellations
- access to airport lounges
- food and alcohol in flight (I originally typed "free" in front of this, but deleted it given the cost of business class tickets...)
- more comfortable seats
- priority boarding
- no extra charges for seat selection, baggage, etc..

- on some carriers, blankets and pillows

- on some carriers/aircraft, 100% direct aisle access

- better FA to passenger ratio

- on some carriers, meals served when you wish

-at most airports, shorter lines to check in

-on most aircraft, dedicated lavatories and shorter/no lines for lavatories (This also means that passengers are much less likely to line up next to your seat while waiting to use lavatory.)

-on most carriers, not only free checked bags, but heavier bags permitted and priority baggage tags/delivery

-at some airports, shorter lines for passport control and security

-with most carriers, better IROPs handling, although status tends to mean more for this priority

It's a 500% better experience than flying "cattle class" well worth 3x the Y price.
Now for short flights I don't care and chose the cheapest Y possible as long as my luggage flies with me.

I think everyone above stated it well, but for me business class also offers a less claustrophobic and more relaxing experience when flying long distances.

Most importantly, if you always fly in business class there are tremendous "peace of mind" benefits.
