The “Glory” - Who Knew that such a thing Exists?
After hundreds of flights over the last couple of years, I snapped this out of the window as we descended to LHR from Düsseldorf this morning- something I’ve never seen before. I thought it was a circular rainbow and I had been lucky to get the shadow of the aircraft in the middle, but it turns out it’s a “Glory” (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glor...al_phenomenon)). So frequent travellers, how common is it?

Bullseye! WHAT a lucky shot ^
I can’t answer your question, as I always let my wife have the window seat!
EDIT = Interesting Wiki, too!

One of my favourite things to watch out of the window. You get them whenever the sun's on the other side of the plane from you (ie when you can see the plane's shadow) and you're close to a relatively flat, uniform cloud top.
Brightest and clearest when you've just emerged from the cloud, but you continue to see it for quite a time as you climb...

I saw them a lot when flying in the US last year, but had never noticed them beforehand. Quite a fun thing to watch, especially when you've either just popped above or are going down into the cloud layer.

I'm normally an Aisler, but when I may have a window seat for whatever reason I'm still really excited when I see a plane out of the window, especially if its going in relatively the same direction. It's impressive. (Also when paths cross! That's exciting too)
