Driving in Thailand is nothing special. Even if you've never done RHD, it took me about 5 minutes leaving BKK to get used to it. Even driving in Bangkok is absolutely fine so long as you can find parking and don't mind sitting in traffic...

The only places where I absolutely saw no point in renting a car based on driving standards, cost, and other transport options were Manila and Bucharest.

I usually take public transit, uber, taxi, or hire a private car outside of Can/US...

So my list is sparse...

I added the Ireland - Northern Ireland crossing a couple weeks ago. I had forgotten that the UK posts speed limits in MPH. Crossed the bridge at Beleek and it went from 80 to 30...I was like geez, how does anybody ever get anywhere in this town? Then I realized...

80 kpm = 50 mph, so you still had to slow down ^

Mine is pretty short:

England (my only time driving on the left...there were no fatalities!)
United Arab Emirates

I've rented cars all over the world bit the most exciting has been in the US Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos. I've had a US style car but driven on the left, UK style, so you are straight up driving on the wrong side of the road.

True: it was entering the town from the west. From a country road (on the Irish side) to the very small town street (on the UK side) with shops and the pottery factory and all. Going from 50MPH to 30MPH made sense.

I try to avoid it outside the U.S., but...

All 50 U.S.
CANADA (BC, Alberta, Quebec)
MEXICO (Cabo area only, not ACA, CUN, PVR or MZT)
COSTA RICA
ST. MAARTEN
ARUBA
SOUTH AFRICA (Cape Town)
SEYCHELLES (Mahe and Praslin but not La Digue)
AUSTRALIA (Cairns and Perth)
NEW ZEALAND (South Island)
UAE (Abu Dhabi)
MICRONESIA (Pohnpei but not Kosrae)
YAP
WESTERN SAMOA
GUAM

Maybe half credit on CHILE (Easter Island) for getting a Yamaha Grizzly priced and used like a car.

Europe, Asia (except the UAE) and South America (except the Easter Island thing) still basically have no self-drive car rents over quite a few trips.

In some places like Cambodia and Mongolia, getting the driver along with the car was the way to go.

Ah, what freedom! I've only just started realising the benefit of hiring cars in foreign places. In my earlier days, I'd be heavily budgeting as a student and would traverse the globe on foot, by plane, train, ferry or cable car.

So, just the UK, Australia, Hawaiian islands (Molokai and Maui), and New Caledonia here.
