In countries where I never held a DL issued in that country, and in approximate descending order of least recent

Spain
Hungary
New Zealand
Australia
Cyprus
Jordan
Argentina
Iceland (got a manual, and an automatic - got a cautionary notification if could use one )
Croatia (into Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina)
Germany (an automatic took getting used to)
Belize
France (drove car into Switzerland for ~1/2hr)
Easter Island (Chile)
Austria
Malta
Italy
French Polynesia (4 islands!)
Malaysia

A few times, I've returned a rental car driven on one side of the road and then picked up another car driving on the other side of the road a few hours later (mainly between Italy and MLA).

Anyone take rental cars on long or int'l ferry crossings? For me, Toulon-Ajacco, Bastia-Nice, Savona-Bastia, Bonifacio - Santa Teresa Gallura, Arbatax-Civitavecchia

France and Argentina were probably the worst interns of poor/dangerous driving skills. Angola probably had the worst quality of roads but I drove far more extensively throughout the country than in many other places.

Only Turkey.

Stopped at a checkpoint in the middle of the country. I was a bit nervous all my paperwork was in the trunk, and I spoke no Turkish. The soldier greeted me in Turkish, I stated “I am sorry, I don’t speak Turkish”. He smiled back and said “American?” I smiled and said yes, and he waved me on…

Fairly interesting.

I am a good driver, but I assure you that driving in Zanzibar is really crazy. I don't recommend it. Completely dark roads and people walking along the sides of the road. Very dangerous.

it is indeed challenging but not more so then other crazy cities around the world. I drove all over Tanzania, including crossing busy markets with people walking all over the place, you just need to have a 360 degree view of what is happening around 😎

Driving in Mozambique and Swaziland sounds fairly exotic. I recently added Albania to my list. I had bought a map, but it wasn't quite up to snuff. I found myself going through some abandoned dirt semi-roads over mountains in driving rain (not too smart) and thought it was all over at some points.
