Pax release gas mid-flight... what to do?
I was on a UA flight to Seatle yesterday and one of the pax around me started passing gas intensely (farting, but not too loud) , it was quite bad that I went to the lavatory and stay there for a good 10 mins...How do freq flyers here deal with stuff like this? LOL
|
From what I understand, he who smelt it...almost certainly dealt it. :)
|
They're called gasper vents for a reason. Otherwise, you'll want to arm yourself in advance with a tuna fish sandwich that you can unwrap mid flight.
|
A few options:
1. Do what you did, get up and leave 2. Reach up and adjust the air vent (if there are any) 3. Hold your breath 5. Take some fast acting sleeping pills 6. Ask the FA for the oxygen tank or Pry open the oxygen mask door and get it yourself (though that will only last you like 15min) |
Turn on the air vents and have some Mentos or other mint candies handy.
|
One-upmanship!
|
Gag, throw up, say it was the food and put in a claim for compensation :D:p:D

Vents on full blast !!
Recently a F/A was telling me about this occurring in J one time, when almost everyone was sleeping, and there was a particularly fragrant pax they had to deal with who was doing this in her sleep. They called it "crop dusting"......one of them walks down the aisle with a can of deodorizer at their side spraying as appropriate. |
Bring some ripe, creamy durian fruit and eat it on the flight to counteract the fart smells!

What to do....?
I guess you will just have to suck it up! :p |
eucalyptus oil is your best friend.
just take a drop or two and gently bursh it near your nostrils. You will not smell anything but a great eucalyptus smell. You can get them online or at whole foods and such. |
It's the altitude. It really does a number on the GI tract, especially on long flights. I go skiing in CO (8,000 ft base altitude) for a week every year and the gas is just unreal.
I believe it's commonly referred to as HAFE (high-altitude flatus expulsion). |
Adjust the vent so it's blowing full blast straight across your face. Always works for me. Usually only need it for a minute or so at a time.
|
Bring Hall's Cough Drops (eucalyptus) and take one .. it works well with normal
gassy situations .. although it may not work when a person is a contender. |
