Gift for 16-year-old obsessed with airplanes and air travel

Any ideas? Have given him a couple of books in the past, although I'm open to book as well as other gift suggestions.

What's your budget and what does he like the most about the industry? Depending on his taste, an aircraft model could be a nice gift.

Budget up to around US$100. I think he has a couple of models already (though I don't recall which one), as well as books and cockpit posters on his wall.

A nice backpack or other luggage for travel? This assumes that circumstances are such that he actually does some travel.

A trial instructional flight, if he's inclined but not already.

Jane's has lots of books related to transportation, I can't personally comment on their aircraft volumes, but their train guides are very nice.
At https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...sl_1j2skhwdw_b amazon is selling under $15 the 5 volume Jane's aircraft books(1993 though)--this might be of interest.

I second this recommendation. Did this for a sibling years ago.

Agree, this would probably blow his mind.

You'd probably need to make sure his parents are OK with it first, though. There are some nervous Nellies out there.

I did this for my wife, but in a sailplane. Life changing.

In addition to an intro flight lesson (which is a good idea), there are also some places that give rides in historic/unique aircraft such as a P51, open cockpit biplane, etc...

There are also places where you can purchase a simulator session. There's one in MOA (that seems to emphasize historical and military aircraft) and the DL museum at ALT offers sessions that can be booked in advance in a real simulator like their pilots use, but the price is beyond what the OP plans to spend.

Tickets or a trip to an air show of some sort?

does their family fly? do you have a ton of miles/points? upgrades/awards? these days some domestic upgrades might only run $100.

When I was 16, I think the open-seat biplane ride would have been about the coolest thing ever.

Simulator wouldn't be bad either...
