Re-check baggage on a long layover?

Hi there,

I'm planning a trip between AMS and GIG on KL/DL Z with a long layover on YYZ (around 23 hours) and flying back GRU/YVR/AMS with a long layover also on YVR with all segments on the same PNR.

May I need to take the bags off on these layovers (YYZ and YVR) to re-check on the next day or the companies take care about it?

If someone have a clue, let me know.

Thanks

Search on your specific airline forum (AC?) for "short check". A short check, in your case, would be checking in at AMS and having the bag tagged just to YYZ, not GIG.

I've personally never had an issue getting an airline to short-check on a long layover. Written policies often say they will not do it, perhaps in part as a deterrent against things like hidden-city itineraries. But a 23-hour layover on an itin that clearly isn't a hidden-city candidate to begin with shouldn't be a big problem...unless there is some legal reason against it on an int'l-to-int'l connection in Canada.

Check the airline board for more definitive information...

@pinniped thanks for the tips. I will check with them.
