Flight Notifications

Why do airline apps insist on sending you notifications like "your flight has landed" or "Your flight has departed". I'm on the plane! I know it took off. I know it landed. That is of no use to me!

Possibly for others that are tracking the progress of the flight?

I book flights for a few friends and have their flights in the app, and in some cases I like to know when they have taken-off or landed at where ever it is they are going. ;)

Those notifications are very useful when you're tracking the delayed inbound aircraft for your flight.

Why did you sign up for notifications that are of no use to you?

I don't. That's the problem! I agree that it is helpful for when you are picking someone up or something like that. But this seems based on my trips in the app. When I turn off notifications it does a good job turning off notices for flights I am watching, but does no good for my flights.

typical one-size-fits-all IT "enhancements" developed by people who will never actually use them
