I don't remember the ones in BOS being that aggressive. Then again, this is Boston and we are very good at rudely ignoring people. I think the Credit Card people in airports like Atlanta are worse.

I do remember there being people like that in Hawaii, who wanted to sell you a lei and photos.

I'm to young to remember seeing them so AIRPLANE! Is my only reference point. OP is right, not too dissimilar to promo hawkers of today.

More recently I'm seeing a lot of Jehovah's Witnesses in the landside of terminals. They are better dressers than the Hare Krishnas.

I seem to recall them lurking in the connecting tunnels of LAX many moons ago, but with security being what it is, I haven't seen one in decades....

I'm not 100% sure it wasn't meant both ways.

But I was 15 and with my Aunts at the time, so I didn't figure it out at the time.

We studied a case about it in my Con Law II Class. I suggested the professor show the Airplane clip but she demurred
