CZM Cozumel + CUN Cancun, 2000
First cruise I ever took. Booked a flight to Cancun, where the cruise was scheduled to begin.
But the water between Cancun and Cozumel was so choppy that our ship couldn't reach Cancun (!) and had to remain docked in Cozumel.
A small airplane flew a small number of passengers that day to reach the ship in Cozumel.
But almost everyone else boarding the ship had to take one of several quickly-chartered, small boats, through the same water that the cruise ship couldn't navigate. Most of my fellow passengers were seasick and pissed off for days.

PHL + ACY, 2010
Flew into PHL
Flew out of ACY
In 2010, Atlantic City was offering flights almost for free to Toronto.
ACY is a short rental car drive away from Philadelphia.

OGG Kahului (Maui), 2013
Had to catch up to a cruise a day after its departure.
The previous day, our plane and another plane had a fender-bender near the gates at SLC.

There are also many airports that I have flown in one direction on one trip, only to fly the other direction years later, but that's for another thread.

Balina, Australia. Flew in, but departed from Brisbane.

CGH, flew in, but departed GRU after driving across Sao Paulo in a frantic connection scheme.

I used to have some regular routes in my travel that involved two cities. I used to fly into DEN, work in town, then drive down to Colorado Springs and fly out of there. That went on for years, but since then I have flown into and out of each. Same with TUL and OKC...for years I flew into TUL and departed OKC. Oh, and same with TPA and JAX. That holds to this day. I have never flown into JAX.

In Only: BOS, MEL, RDU, SNA, STL, TLL

Out Only: BWI, MAN, SDF, TUL

Most of these are for relatively boring reasons, like regional travel where it was easier to open jaw. For instance, STL and SDF were on one trip. So were RDU and BWI.

For MEL, it was on a family trip to see friends who live there. My father was obsessed with the idea of taking a train between Melbourne and Sydney. To this day, no one's really sure why he wouldn't relent. But it blew up spectacularly because there was a problem with the train line in Victoria, so we ended up on a bus until the NSW state line. He was not pleased with that.

I once thought this thread was the most boring FT thread...

It would be nice to have some kind of story about WHY or HOW you found yourself in that situation.
For those of you who've travelled extensively, surely you must have something to share.

Dragging up an old post because this is the only one I can think of! Flew into OKC, visited an observing site up north (Near Ponca City) and flew out of Tulsa..

Interesting town.....
