Baggage question
Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody could answer this question. We have 4 people and will have 4 check in luggages flying on AA, or UA, or Air Canada. (I have still not booked the tickets yet, so I'm not sure yet.) My question is can we pay for 2 people to get their luggage checked since the 1st bag is usually $25 and for 2 bags is would be $35, so it would be cheaper for 1 person to check 2 bags correct? Is this allowed? Thanks! |
Yes, we do something similar when flying. Typically all bags go on my PNR as I get free checked bags. Also if anyone has status (sounds like nobody does) the bags should be on their PNR. In case IRROPS status sometimes helps.

Assuming no one has status, no one should check a second bag unless everyone in the group has already checked one. |
Oh, OK...that makes sense. Yeah...I've never checked a bag before so I wasn't quite sure how it worked. Thanks for clearing that up. My dad, who will be going with me does have the United Mileageplus card, so he can get 2 free check ins, so it's ok for him to do 2 so we pay for 2 correct? However, if we go with other airlines, we don't have any status or anything so we would have to pay for 4 check ins

By the way, you didn't say when you're flying, but it might be worth it for another member of your party to get this or a similar credit card if there's time and his/her credit is good enough to get fast approval. Even if the card has an annual fee, you could probably save more than that in checked baggage fees. Do the arithmetic and send in an application. |
We are flying at the end of October. My dad has been telling me to sign up for the United card because they sent me an offer for 50000 miles, but I had the card and cancelled a couple years ago, so I was unsure if I was eligible for the bonus miles, so I haven't yet

You might also find useful information about your eligibility in FT's Credit Card forums, in an existing thread (try the Search function) or, if you can't find one with the answer, by opening a new one. |
Ok thanks, i will do a search in the United CC forum :)
