Your advice on SFO-SYD-SIN-SFO
Hello,
I need to book a flight from SFO-SYD-SIN-SFO in late June. It doesn't need to be with any particular airline, but am looking for hopefully a very reasonably priced business class fare, or an incredibly comfortable economy plus experience with nice wide seats (at least for the two longest legs). I would like to book it all as one itinerary, but if it'd save a substantial amount of money, could book as separate flights. You guys are always good with pointers - any idea which airlines I should focus on for these legs? Looking around online admittedly has me feeling a bit overwhelmed, and the business class fares I'm finding are in the $10k range per person. Any advice appreciated! |
Play with Google flights. Don't know your exact dates but using random ones at the end of June the following priced at $6k but requires an indirect to SYD (not sure what your price range is but that's obviously way less than 10k):
SFO - AKL - SYD (NZ J) SYD - SIN (BA J) SIN - NRT - SFO (NH J on 77W so lie-flat for both legs) Or SIN - SFO (new UA J direct on 787) Whole thing shows as bookable via UA directly from Google flights even with BA for the SYD - SIN flight. Seeing other options in this price range but all require indirect on the SFO - SYD route |

But you may do better with a travel agent |
I've been very pleased with Virgin Australia's premium economy cabin between the U.S. west coast and assorted points in Oz. It's between economy and international business class, nothing like the economy seats with a few inches extra leg room that U.S. airlines promote as "economy comfort" or whatever on their domestic flights. For me, it's a good compromise between the squeeze of economy on such a long flight (been there, done that) and the expense of business class (I don't have anonymous stockholders unknowingly footing the bill for my travel).

Good to know. If you've flown VS premium economy, too, how would you compare VA vs VS?
