Plastic versus Glass 750ml Bottles

Hi, I just bought a plastic 750ml bottle of Fireball to take as a gift for a friend in Mexico. The plastic bottle weighs less than glass so I thought it was a good idea for a check in bag. Then I got to thinking, is it? Has anyone ever traveled with a plastic bottle and had any problems? Will it handle the pressure and luggage stacked on top as well as glass? Thank you!

Should be fine, I regularly have plastic bottles of carbonated drinks in my checked bag and never had a problem but if you're worried about it, put it in a sealed plastic bag just in case of leakage.

Should be fine. I would assume the only damage would come if it was sufficiently cold to freeze the bottle.

Fireball, if I recall is cinnamon whisky so it will not freeze. I would not worry about damage, but if you are, as mentioned, wrap it in a sealed plastic bag.

I suspect Fireball can be bought at any liquor store, but if you're going to Mexico it might be extremely expensive, so you've chosen a good gift. Many reputable spirits are now sold in plastic bottles.

I have not personally traveled with spirits in many years. I always preferred to buy it on site at a local store, as prices are similar wherever I go, especially when weight is a consideration (Westjet used to have 2 checked and 2 carryons allowed as part of the base price). I do remember traveling (many years ago) with a fellow student who, when it came time to pack for the trip, simply picked a few half empty bottles from his liquor cabinet and put them in his carryon. He seemed to be okay.

I've not had any problems with similar plastic bottles either, both carbonated and non-carbonated products. Should be fine.

Echoing what others have said above. As along as a little effort is put into packing, there should be a problem. (I've had no problems transporting bottles of mouthwash, contact lense solution, alcohol, etc.)
