One-way, or cheap return and pay a change fee

What do you think?

I need to fly LHR-KUL this weekend. I'm supervising a building project, so my return date is very open, and I'm flying Y, though I'd like to at least get an exit row seat.

It looks like two one-way tickets cost something like £650, and a return from around £450, plus change fee.

What airline? How much would the change of the return leg cost?

1. What's the change fee, if you change? (If it's less than £200, this is a no-brainer.)

2. What are the odds that you'll be able to pick the right return date?

3. Whose pocket is this coming out of? If it's yours, does the tax system in your country reduce your actual out-of-pocket cost?

4. What's your risk tolerance?

The questions others asked will make a big difference. But I have another. You're supervising a building project, coming from England and your boss makes you fly Coach?

Find a new boss or new job. That's ridiculous.

On MH it looks like it is £100 on the basic economy fare.

Looks like TK is non-changeable, but I can't find the actual fare rules.

I guess nesting is another option, but in that case I need to buy tickets for the rest of my family at the same time.

(i.e. in July I would go back again, with my family, returning at the end of August, so i could buy a ticket today, returning at the end of August, and then when i want to return in say February, I could buy a return going the other way.)

It's self-build. :p

Does that change fee include the price of a possible change in fare price at the time of a change?
