not sure if this is a UA specific DYKWIA topic. But it happens across all sorts of customer programs .. up to and including Starbucks and the article reads like the current flavor of the month "haves vs have nots". Nothing like class (pun intended) warfare to sell articles

It's all funny when you realize that the true elites of this world (whether they actually deserve it or not, or are the good/bad sense of the word) are never found bargaining for upgrades with the gate agent. They are out of sight, out of mind, flying private -- and the people who loudly say that they're elite in front of the line are actually just the petit bourgeoisie who have to fight for the scraps, imagining themselves princes and princesses at the top of the trash pile.

Think of that the next time someone says, "do you know who I am?" Yes, I do! Exactly, I do.

Power corrupts. Money corrupts. Flyer-status corrupts.

Exactly right, check out Signature Services at your local airport. I think most people have no idea that there are 2 terminals at many airports, the main terminal for the general public, the Signature Services terminal for the true elites that fly on private jets. It really is amazing to watch, as I have, seeing people arrive in a gulfstream, 4 or 5 people get off the airplane, get their bags, car picks them up in a matter of minutes. No lines, no hassle and I did not see any TSA etc.

Take one passenger, Camille Jamerson, who told Elliott she was once “ordered” to give up her first-class seat by a fellow passenger who said he had Medallion status and, therefore, wanted to move his friend from back in economy class to Camille’s seat. “That didn’t happen,” Camille told Elliott.
This pax should have been forcibly deplaned and banned for life from the airline.

Somehow the name Christopher Elliott usually appears in stories like this. Since he is the sole source of the anecdotes in the story, I assume that this is overblown clickbait.

Somebody actually told a first-class passenger to go in back so their friend can sit there?

I would have laughed for hours.

From personal experience, I think the author is being a tad liberal with the facts.

Absolutely meaningless article.
A..holes fly F, but, they also fly C and Y.
I can also find them at the office or in my house compound.

Bringing up some anecdotes is not journalism.

Entitlement mentality exists in all facets of life.

A bit of humility never killed anyone...

The photo from the article is attributed to 'iStock'. I suspect the writing itself could be as well.

Count me as skeptical that that happened as reported.

Every really bad experience I have had in the air has been in international economy. The last time made me resolve never to fly international economy again if I could help it, and that lead me to flyertalk to figure out how to upgrade effectively. I have never had a bad experience in international business class.

I suppose that a journalist could have corroborated Mr. Elliott's version of Ms. Jamerson's story, but that would have involved making a phone call or sending an email and it could have killed the story's best anecdote.
