Can of Soda?

This doesn't apply to airlines like AA or B6 who hand you the entire can, but I was wondering for airlines like UA, DL, WN etc, is it rude to ask for an entire can of soda? Is it frowned upon? Is there a proper etiquette?

Always got a can when i asked for. Be it AA or DL

Not rude at all. Just ask.

never been a problem, "please" always helps however

Just ask. I suspect that part of the reason some airlines don't give an entire can is because they end up throwing away a lot of half-consumed cans. But if a passenger is planning to drink it, no reason not to ask.

It can't possibly hurt to ask. The worst thing that can happen is that the flight attendant will say something like "I'm sorry, but we're running short of ginger ale and we may not have enough to go around." Most of the time you'll get the whole can. Nobody will ever resent your asking.

I always ask for the whole can and two cups of ice. That stuff melts fast.

Front rows and/or popular drink = they'd hesitate.
Back rows and/or less popular drink = they'd not hesitate.

From a few years back, but here is more information on this topic:

In Y, Just ask. It's never rude. And if by some bizarre chance the FA won't, just hit the call button when you are ready for a refill. That's what it's there for.

In F/J - many carriers do not serve the can but simply provide refills on offer or demand.

As to hitting the call button - many FAs feel it is only for emergencies, not drink refills.

That's nice for them to think, to be fair I normally just flag one down or walk to the galley but I used it to get a coffee a couple weeks ago. I was on AA IAH-PHX on the ~5:45 am flight so as soon as we got onboard I fell asleep and slept through the drink service. Since I was in a window seat I used the call button because I didn't see anybody walking around and didn't want to wake one of the people in between me and the aisle for a coffee.

As the for the whole can, it's never a problem if you ask nicely. On my return AA flight of the above trip, I asked for a can of diet coke and she just handed me the glass. An "excuse me, do you mind if I keep the whole can?" and the FA handed it over.

If it's a flight of one to three hours, I often ask, "May I have an unopened can of [something] so I can have it later?" The attendants like to get the drink service over with, but I often have just had a drink before boarding and don't want my inflight drink until halfway through the flight.

They usually oblige, but once they said they weren't allowed and I should ask them later on, when I was ready for it. I did and they gave me the whole can then.
