Sitting in vomit?

Recently I went to sit down for a 14 hour flight with my 1 year old baby and two children for long-haul flight back to NZ - one of three flights to get back home. We sit down and we start to smell something pretty disgusting like VOMIT. Then we look around and there is still someone's vomit all down the back of the seat in front of us (between the two seats also). It was not cleaned at all and was even caked over the television screen of the man sitting in front of us - it must have been serious projectile vomiting! The kids and I were almost sick ourselves at the smell. I ask to move.....but no....these cabin crew were relentless at making me stay in my seat (the plane is very full and they do not want to move a tired mother and three kids). But I couldn't sit there - there was vomit everywhere, it had half-dried and slid down between the seats. My one year old is touching everything at the moment and the hand goes always in his mouth. In the end, I had to stand up, half-crying (already 10 hours without sleep on the previous night flight and transit from Paris) and ask others in my cabin if they could help me. I ask, is it acceptable to let children and passengers be exposed to vomit on any flight (not accidental exposure)? isn't there some saftety regulations or something to stop this from happening?

Isn't that a biohazard? I'd flip out if that happened to me. Just gross.

Welcome to FT, PARISKIWI!

Could you maybe divulge airline and route? I really hope you took photos and complained to the airline, because you should be offered some compensation. Unfortunately, if the flight really was full, then there's not much the crew could have done to reseat you. Most airlines do carry pretty powerful cleaning fluids on board, but there is no substitute for a deep clean at home base.

I am not questioning anything that you are saying - I am happy to take your story at face value - and you have my sympathy for having endured such a miserable experience.

Your question is whether anyone knows of a law or rule that might govern such a situation. I do not and cannot help you there.

I am responding for one simple reason - your story is the kind of story that makes headlines. It is the kind of story that ends up on Yahoo headlines and Good Morning America. So while I am not challenging your account, I would suggest exercising caution to ensure that you do not let anyone influence you to exaggerate the details so that you are not later victimized again by the media.

I would suggest a letter to the airline asking if the procedures followed by ground staff and the flight crew were in accordance with airline policy. In other words, if this were to happen tomorriw to another mother with small children would the airline expect the same result. If they say yes - then the media will eat it ip. If they say no - then they are acknowledging a systemic failure and that they owe you something.

Really?

I'm not sure where you're going with this, but it must be a pretty slow newsday if this makes Good Morning America.

Welcome to Flyertalk PARISKIWI. Without knowing the airline or route this is just an unfortunate travel experience and I agree with the last poster:
"Your question is whether anyone knows of a law or rule that might govern such a situation. I do not and cannot help you there.

So, I am going to lock this thread and hope that you communicate with the airline and have a satisfactory outcome.
