If things get bad enough, you'll still hear Henny Penny calling for Chicken Little.

Ummm, your home will fall into a sinkhole and we'll colonize Mars? These things only happen when you go totally offline for a month or more.

It's wonderful.

I go out of my way to avoid the news when I am away from home.

It's like work - everything really does go on without me, and it's all still waiting when I get back. It is soooo relaxing to ignore it for a while.

Armageddon, End of Days, Apocalypse, the sky will fall, pigs will fly, Hell will freeze, etc., etc...

But probably something a lot less serious than that.

Enjoy it.

At the end of the trip you'll be a month older and a little less conversant in current events.

We don't completely check out but scale way back on news coverage during our annual August holiday. Each December when they review the "who died this year" there are some major surprises.

Wow! You mean the hair will actually win!!!??? (Trump's hair)

I assume people who travel for weeks or months rarely check the news, or is that just me?

I was at a semi-fancy hotel near the Swiss/French border recently. It was the very first time time in a big hotel that had no English TV channels.(shocking!) The hotel's shop also didn't have any English newspaper, which was kind of surreal. Since I spoke zero French, I was literally cut off from the news.

What happens? Nothing - except that you come to realize just how unimportant closely following the news is.

Try it sometime, you'll like it! (And for a real mind-bender, try going on a long trip without easy access to a phone or the internet. I spent 17 days rafting down the Grand Canyon a few years ago, and only the main guide had access to the outside world via satellite phone - and that was just for emergencies. After a day or so's adjustment, it was heaven!)
